*BIRMINGHAM, AL *– On a night where Tobias Myers became the Shuckers’ single-season strikeout king, the Biloxi Shuckers (71-59, 37-24) used 15 strikeouts from the pitching staff and two infield web gems for a 4-3 win over the Birmingham Barons (47-84, 22-40) at Regions Field. The win clinched Biloxi’s second straight series win and their third straight on the road.

Myers piled the strikeouts early, striking out two in each of the first three innings. In the fourth, the Shuckers gave him the lead with a triple from Jackson Chourio and an RBI double from Wes Clarke. Three batters later, Zavier Warren drove in Clarke with a single to right-center. Carlos Rodriguez then extended the lead to 3-0 with a triple to the wall in right-center.

In the bottom of the inning, Bryan Ramos was walked and came around to score on a triple from Wilfred Veras, making it 3-1. The next batter, Edgar Quero, struck out swinging, giving Myers his 158th strikeout of the year, a new single-season franchise record. The strikeout broke the previous record, set at 157 by Alec Bettinger in 2019. Myers struck out two more in the outing, giving him a Southern League-leading 160 on the year.

In the sixth, Veras led off the bottom of the inning with a solo home run, tying the game at three. Lamar Sparks broke the tie in the top of the seventh, however, with a solo shot of his own on a 3-0 pitch, giving Biloxi a 4-3 lead.

From there, James Meeker and Cam Robinson combined for three scoreless innings out of the Shuckers’ bullpen. The pair was helped out by two outs at the plate. Freddy Zamora cut down Colson Montgomery trying to score from third on a grounder to short in the eighth, and he did the same to Terrell Tatun in the ninth to keep the Shuckers ahead by one.

Kaleb Bowman (2-0) earned the win after an inning in relief while Yoelvin Silven (3-4) took the loss for the Barons. Shuckers’ closer Cam Robinson picked up his 15th save of the year, the most out of any Southern League pitcher.

Biloxi enters tomorrow a game and a half behind the Biscuits for the final playoff spot in the South Division with seven games to go. The two will meet at MGM Park starting on Tuesday, September 12. As of today, the Shuckers will need to win four of six against the Biscuits to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2019.

TJ Shook will start in the road trip finale for the Shucker against righty Matt Thompson for the Barons. First pitch at Regions Field is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.

The game can be heard on Cruisin’ WGCM 1240 AM, 100.9 FM with coverage beginning at 3:45 p.m. with the Biloxi Shuckers Pregame Show featuring the Mississippi Army National Guard Pregame Interview. The game can also be seen live on MiLB.tv.
