Four Reading Homers Sink SeaWolves in 11-3 Loss

READING, PA - The Erie SeaWolves (42-23, 78-55) surrendered runs in five consecutive innings in an 11-3 loss to the Reading Fightin' Phils (37-27, 67-66) on Wednesday night at FirstEnergy Stadium.

Erie's offense struck first on a windy night in Reading with a two-run home run from Chris Meyers in the second inning against Fightin' Phils starter Gage Wood, the second straight night with a home run in Meyers' return to the SeaWolves lineup.

Lucas Elissalt started for the SeaWolves and the 22-year-old cruised through the first two innings, allowing just one baserunner on a hit batter in the opening frames. After Erie provided the run support for Elissalt in the second on the home run, Reading broke through in the third with back-to-back doubles from Caleb Ricketts and Bryson Ware. The Fightin' Phils loaded the bases in the frame but couldn't bring another across in the third and the SeaWolves held a 2-1 lead after three.

Aroon Escobar evened the score quickly in the fourth with a leadoff home run and Bryson Ware launched his 15th blast of the season to give Reading its first lead of the series.

The first three reached for Reading in the fifth inning on a pair of singles and a walk to chase Elissalt from the game. Two runs scored in the fifth as reliever Colin Fields walked in a run and hit a batter after entering with the bases loaded and no outs but Fields escaped without any further damage in the fifth.

Reading kept piling on in the sixth with eleven sent to the plate and five runs scored against Fields and Yoniel Curet. Singles from Bryan Rincon and Dante Nori ended the night for Colin Fields and Raylin Heredia and Carson DeMartini hit back-to-back home runs to greet Curet. Aroon Escobar's double and three walks brought in the final run of the inning and extended the lead to 10-3.

The Fightin' Phils scored their final run of the night in the seventh against SeaWolves reliever Wandisson Charles on an RBI single from Raider Tello.

Thayron Liranzo got Erie back in the run column with a home run to lead off the top of the eighth inning. The blast was Liranzo's 17th of the year and his third straight game with a homer to cut the deficit to 11-3.

Woody Hadeen and Patrick Lee each posted two-hit games in the loss.

The SeaWolves and Fightin' Phils continue their series Thursday night with Kenny Serwa on the mound for Erie. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 PM.
