Aces Host Rainiers for Six-Game Divisional Battle

After a six-game tilt with the Sacramento River Cats, Triple-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, the Reno Aces return home for a six-game homestand against the Tacoma Rainiers, Triple-A affiliate of the Seattle Mariners, starting Monday, July 4 at 6:35 p.m.

The Aces took three wins in the series against Sacramento.

SCOUTING TACOMA

The Rainiers recently hosted the Salt Lake Bees, Triple-A affiliate of the Los Angeles Angels, and took four out of the six-game series.

Infielder Erick Mejia leads the Rainiers with 62 hits in 62 games played with Tacoma. Mejia finished the month of June with a .333 batting average and drove in 11 runs in 19 games.

Forrest Wall has been a menace on the basepaths for Tacoma and ranks third in the Pacific Coast League with 23 stolen bases.

Tacoma’s starting rotation is anchored by Darren McCaughan, who owns a 5-4 record in 15 starts and has registered 81 strikeouts in 82 innings pitched.

Relievers Matt Koch and Nick Ramirez both are 3-for-3 in save opportunities for Tacoma.

*ACES HIGH *

The Aces currently hold a 7-5 record against the Rainiers this season. In their last clash with Tacoma, the Aces split the series with three wins. During that series, Dominic Canzone batted .471 (8-for-17) in five games, with two homers, four RBI and four runs scored. Corbin Martin earned a win in his start against the Rainiers with six innings of two-run ball (one earned) on four hits and four strikeouts.

Wilmer Difo swung a hot bat against the River Cats and hit .300 (6-for-20) with a homer and seven RBI in five games.

Reno’s hottest hitter, Jake McCarthy, started all six games against Sacramento and hit .285 (8-for-26) with three RBI and eight runs scored.

On the mound, Tommy Henry recorded one of his best starts this season with seven scoreless innings on five hits and eight strikeouts Wednesday afternoon against the River Cats. Henry has allowed just two earned runs in his last 13 innings pitched.

Ryne Nelson earned his sixth win Sunday evening with six innings of two-run ball on five hits and punched out six batters in Reno’s 10-6 win over Sacramento. The University of Oregon product has won three of his last four road starts.

Out of the bullpen, Blake Workman was sharp in relief Sunday with 1.2 scoreless innings, allowed no hits and struck out a batter.
