Reno, Nev. – The Reno Aces (25-18, 60-58) return to the Biggest Little City after sweeping the El Paso Chihuahuas this past week to host their Silver State rival, the Las Vegas Aviators (23-21, 60-59). The first pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. PT on Tuesday, August 20.
In 15 games between the rivals this season, Las Vegas has had the advantage by one game, taking eight matchups. The upcoming series will be the final time the two clubs meet this season.
Notable players on the Aviator’s roster include infielders Armando Alvarez and Jacob Wilson.
Alvarez has been a problem in 13 games against the Aces this season, slashing .317/.429/.610 with seven extra-base hits, eight RBI, and eight walks. In the clubs’ previous meeting, the 30-year-old went 9-for-23 (.391) with four doubles, two home runs, seven RBI, and three walks. Alvarez recently returned to Triple-A Las Vegas after making his second stint of the season with the Oakland Athletics. Only playing in two games, the infielder collected one hit in three at-bats. He will look to stay strong against the Aces this upcoming week.
Aces fans will have the chance to see highly-touted prospect Jacob Wilson. The 22-year-old currently ranks as the #1 prospect in Oakland’s system and the #26 overall. Wilson is amid a rehab assignment for a strained hamstring and has gone 2-for-5 in two games with Las Vegas since returning to the diamond. The shortstop has climbed throughout the minor league levels this season and has crushed Triple-A pitching in only 21 games, slashing .398/.448/.625 with eight doubles, four home runs, and 12 RBI.
Kyle Garlick has enjoyed hitting against Las Vegas this season, going 16-for-52 (.308) with seven extra-base hits, three home runs, and 14 RBI vs Reno’s Silver State rival. The power hitter was productive in the Ace’s previous series against El Paso, registering four extra-base hits and eight RBI including a clutch two-run blast in the series finale to secure the series sweep. He enters the upcoming homestand riding a seven-game hit streak where he has gone 10-for-29 (.344) with two home runs and nine RBI.
The Aces return to Greater Nevada Field on August 20 to host the Las Vegas Aviators, the Triple-A affiliate of the Oakland Athletics, with the first pitch scheduled for 6:435 p.m. PT.
