Entering June 18’s doubleheader, Rouglas Odor was two wins away from becoming the winningest manager in franchise history.

The RubberDucks didn’t wait long rallying back from a 1-0 deficit to take game one 4-2 before Johnathan Rodriguez homered twice to power Akron to a 5-2 win in game two, and giving Odor 245 wins as the manager of the RubberDucks.

“I wasn’t really thinking about it,” Odor said. “I was concentrating on winning the ballgame or helping the players. When we were in the last inning, I started to think ok this might be it, so we need three more outs. It was an exciting time and I really appreciate the players celebrating with me.”

The celebration of Rougie began with a gift from Bradley Hanner, who closed out game two.

“Hanner was closing the game and I was high fiving everybody and he gave me the baseball and [the players] all were congratulating me,” Odor said. “It was cool to see that they knew about it, and they were playing the game not just to win, but to celebrate with me.”

The final out baseball was just the start of the well-earned gifts for Odor.

Prior to June 20’s game, the RubberDucks players presented Odor with a custom championship belt.

The RubberDucks front office presented Odor with a plaque before the game on June 21. Guardians President of Baseball Operations Chris Antonetti, General Manager Mike Chernoff and manager Terry Francona sent video congratulations as well.

Odor’s favorite restaurant and RubberDucks sponsor Diamond Deli named a sandwich for him as well.

But for Mr. 245, the record goes to the players, who made it all possible.

“When I think about the 245 games, I always think about the players,” Odor said. “Obviously, you have to have the players to win ballgames. This goes for each player that has gone through Akron, the Guardians front office, the RubberDucks front office, the fans and obviously my family has been a part of this too, so I am excited and glad.

“It means a lot, but this is for the players. If you do not have the players, you are not going to be able to win ballgames. But it is cool to be recognized as having that record, but this is for the players because you have to have the players to win.”

The RubberDucks will look to continue their winning ways in the second half of the 2023 season, which begins on June 28 in Erie.

And for Odor, one last honor awaits on July 8 when the first 1,000 fans receive his bobblehead.
