Alexander's Four-RBI Night Ends In Extra-Inning Defeat

CJ Alexander registered a season-high four RBI as part of a multi-hit night, but the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (27-13, 59-55) dropped game one of their six-game set against the Round Rock Express (24-16, 55-60) on Tuesday, falling 8-7 in walk-off fashion in 10 innings at Dell Diamond.

The Express struck first in the bottom of the first. Two doubles helped Round Rock jump out to an early 1-0 lead before a triple and sacrifice fly from Trevor Hauver extended the Express’ advantage to 2-0 after two innings.

Round Rock added to its lead in the bottom of the third. After a two-out single put a runner on, Logan O’Hoppe connected on a two-run home run to push the Express’ advantage to 4-0.

The Space Cowboys plated three runs of their own in the top of the fourth. Pascanel Ferreras and Raynel Delgado connected on back-to-back singles to put two runners aboard before Alexander launched his 20th home run of the season, a three-run shot that cut the deficit to 4-3.

Sugar Land continued to build on its momentum in the fifth. César Salazar recorded his first hit since being reinstated from the injured list before Cavan Biggio followed with his fifth triple of the season, driving in his 55th run and tying the game at four a piece. Ferreras then delivered an RBI double to give the Space Cowboys a 5-4 lead.

LHP Josh Hendrickson made his seventh consecutive appearance of at least five innings on Tuesday, tossing 6.0 innings and allowing seven runs, four earned, while walking one and striking out four.

Round Rock regained the lead in the bottom of the sixth. After a runner reached on a two-out error, Aaron Zavala hit a go-ahead two-run home run before Diego Castillo followed with a solo shot to put the Express back in front, 7-5.

Sugar Land started a second comeback in the seventh. Ferreras reached on catcher’s interference before Alexander delivered his fourth RBI of the game with a double to cut the Round Rock lead to 7-6.

RHP Trey McLoughlin and RHP Roddery Muñoz each worked a scoreless inning in relief for the Space Cowboys in the seventh and eighth respectively. McLoughlin struck out one before Muñoz punched out two in the eighth to keep Sugar Land within one.

The Space Cowboys rallied to tie the game in the top of the ninth. Salazar was hit by a pitch before Biggio singled to put two runners on. Alexander then worked a walk to load the bases before Trenton Brooks came off the bench and drew a bases-loaded walk to tie the game at 7-7.

RHP Miguel Ullola entered in the bottom of the ninth and worked around a walk while striking out one to send the game to extra innings.

Sugar Land regained the lead in the top of the 10th. Lucas Spence reached on a fielding error to put runners on the corners with one out before Salazar lifted a deep fly ball to center field, allowing the Space Cowboys to take an 8-7 lead on a sacrifice fly.

However, Round Rock would answer in the bottom half of the inning. A leadoff walk and sacrifice bunt put the winning runs in scoring position before John Taylor delivered a walk-off single, giving the Express an 8-7 victory.

NOTABLE:

• CJ Alexander went 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, a walk and four RBI in Tuesday’s series opener against Round Rock. His home run extended his RBI streak to eight games, tying Cavan Biggio for the longest RBI streak by a Space Cowboy this season. It marked Alexander’s first four-RBI game since August 3, 2025, when he was with Oklahoma City against Salt Lake. Alexander has now homered four times against Round Rock this season and is 16-for-62 (.258) with seven home runs, 18 RBI, 11 walks and a double against the Express in his career.
• Raynel Delgado extended his hitting streak to 10 games after going 2-for-5 with a run scored Tuesday. Delgado has recorded a multi-hit game in seven of his last 10 contests going 20-for-45 (.444) over that stretch with four doubles, two triples, 13 RBI, four walks and nine runs scored. Since July 31, Delgado’s 20 hits are the most in the Pacific Coast League.
• Pascanel Ferreras went 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored in his first game since being reinstated from the injured list on August 11. Ferreras has now driven in a run in back-to-back games dating back to August 2.
• LHP Josh Hendrickson made his seventh consecutive appearance of at least 5.0 innings in Tuesday’s series opener. Since May 29, Hendrickson has logged 60.2 innings, the fourth-most in the Pacific Coast League during that span.
• With Tuesday’s contest, the Space Cowboys have played 16 extra-inning games this season, the most in the Pacific Coast League.
