Once the full details of the proposal are received, the team will carefully evaluate to ensure that it works for the organization, the fans and the community prior to formally accepting.
The Inland Empire 66ers have announced that the Los Angeles Angels have officially invited the minor league organization to continue their player development relationship as their Class-A Minor League affiliate beginning in 2021. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Angels,” says 66ers General Manager, Joe Hudson, “and being able to provide a top-notch facility and atmosphere for the Angels to develop their talent.”
As a result of the long-standing player development relationship between the Angels and the 66ers, the 66ers roster has housed a number of top prospects turned Major Leaguers such as Jo Adell, David Fletcher, CJ Cron and Kole Kalhoun. Since the inaugural year of their affiliation in 2011, the 66ers and the Inland Empire community have welcomed 59 rehab assignments including Jered Weaver, Andrelton Simmons, and eight-time Major League Baseball (MLB) All-Star Mike Trout.
In addition to the 66ers invitation, the Angels anticipated farm system includes, the Salt Lake City Bees, the Rocket City Trash Pandas, and the Tri-City Dust Devils as affiliates.
“We are proud to continue our relationship with Salt Lake, Rocket City and Inland Empire and are excited to welcome the Tri-City franchise to the Angels family,” said Angels General Manager Perry Minasian. “I would like to thank the ownership groups and staffs of each of these great franchises for their help in establishing these long-term partnerships. We would also like to express our gratitude to the residents of Salt Lake City, Madison, Pasco and San Bernardino for welcoming Angels Baseball into your communities.”
The announcement stems from a series of organizational changes made by MLB in efforts to modernize the player development system as a result of the expiration of the Professional Baseball Agreement between MiLB and MLB. Official confirmation of all MLB Club affiliates as well as the release of the 2021 season schedule will be done ensuing the Player Development License and negotiations currently taking place between MiLB Owners and MLB.
“The 2020 season would have marked 10 years of affiliation with the Angels, and we are looking forward to having the opportunity to celebrate that milestone in 2021,” expressed Hudson.
