DES MOINES, IA (May 17, 2025) - Every baseball team knows they won’t get through an entire season with their original roster. One day after needing a reinforcement arm from Double-A, the St. Paul Saints, in conjunction with the Minnesota Twins, made another roster move as they tapped into the organizations affiliate in Wichita. Left-handed pitcher Christian MacLeod was transferred to St. Paul and will start Saturday night’s game in Iowa.
The 25-year-old MacLeod, who started one game for the Saints in 2024, is off to a great start with the Wind Surge this season. He is 0-1 with a 1.38 ERA in four starts. In 13.0 innings he’s allowed just two runs on 10 hits while walking two and striking out 11 while opponents hit .217 against him. MacLeod began the season on the injured list and after two Minor League rehab appearances in Fort Myers, began his season with the Wind Surge on April 23.
MacLeod was one of three starting pitchers to make the jump from High-A Cedar Rapids to St. Paul in 2024 joining Zebby Matthews and Andrew Morris. In his lone game with the Saints, he went 5.0 innings allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits while walking one and striking out five on August 11 vs. Columbus (Cleveland Guardians), who went on to win the second half title in the International League.
In 2024, MacLeod had a solid season overall going 4-4 with a 3.41 ERA in 21 games (20 starts) between the three levels. In 92.1 innings pitched he walked 46 and struck out 107 while opponents hit just .215 against him.
MacLeod was a 5th round pick by the Minnesota Twins in 2021 out of Mississippi State where he won a College World Series title that year as the Bulldogs defeated the Vanderbilt Commodores two-games-to-one. He missed the entire 2022 season due to Tommy John surgery, but came back in 2023 to pitch at Single-A Fort Myers and High-A Cedar Rapids. Between the two stops he was 5-2 with a 4.08 ERA in 17 games (16 starts). In 70.2 innings pitched he walked 32 and struck out 69 while opponents hit .253 against him.
To make room for MacLeod, lefthanded pitcher Jaylen Nowlin was transferred to Wichita.
The Saints roster stands at the league maximum 28, 16 pitchers and 12 position players.
