May 28, 2024 - Spokane, WA: Jean Perez successfully executed a squeeze bunt to score José Cordova from third base in the bottom of the 10th inning as the Spokane Indians took the opening game of a six-game series over he AquaSox by an 8-7 final before a crowd of 4,656 at Avista Stadium.
With the score tied at 7-7, Cordova began the bottom of the 10th as the ghost runner at second base. After Jake Snider walked, pinch-hitter Robby Martin, Jr. laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance the runners to second and third. With Cordova in motion from third on the pitch, Perez got the bunt down to score Cordova with the game-winner.
With the score tied at 1-1 in the top of the fourth, the AquaSox scored three runs to take a 4-1 lead. Brock Rodden reached on an infield hit, and scored on a double to left by Josh Hood. Moments later Hood came home when RJ Schreck doubled over the head of Spokane right fielder Jesus Bugarin. Schreck then scored when Jared Sundstrom doubled to center.
Spokane sent nine batters to the plate in the bottom of the seventh and scored four runs on five hits to take a 7-5 lead. The inning was capped by a three-run home run from Kyle Karros; his third long ball of the season.
Brock Rodden tied the game in the top of the eighth with his fifth home run, a two-run shot to right with Victor Labrada aboard. Rodden finished 2-for-5 with two runs scored.
AquaSox starting pitcher Brandyn Garcia pitched well but picked up a no decision. He went five innings, allowed six hits, just one run (earned), and struck out seven. For his second start this season he did not issue a walk.
The AquaSox finished with 15 hits and were led by Hood, Schreck, and Labrada who had three hits apiece. Sundstrom batted 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles, a walk, and an RBI.
