AquaSox Get Jump on Rooster Tails

PASCO – Big two-out hits ruled the day in Saturday night’s contest at Gesa Stadium, with the Everett AquaSox (27-26 2H, 60-59) getting enough offense to pull out an 8-6 win over the Tri-City Dust Devils (24-29 2H, 59-60) that kept alive the visitors’ hopes of a road split.

Playing one more time in 2026 as the Columbia River Rooster Tails, Tri-City scored all of its runs on the night with two outs. The Dust Devils trailed Everett 2-0 in the bottom of the 3^rd when a three-hit burst got the home nine on the board. 3B Slate Alford, CF Hayden Alvarez and LF Jonny McGill all singled off AquaSox starter Evan Truitt (3-5), with McGill’s RBI hit to center scoring Alford to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.

A four-run top of the 6^th for Everett, all reaching base and scoring with two out, hampered the Tri-City comeback effort. Dann Bilardello’s team would respond with three runs of their own in the same inning, though, again starting with two out. SS Kendrey Maduro led off the inning with a double and tagged up on a flyout to get to third, but RF Kevyn Castillo let him jog the last 90 feet by smacking a liner over the wall in right for his first High-A homer. The two-run shot made it a 6-3 game but only for a moment. DH Ryland Zaborowski made it back-to-back homers with a solo shot of his own to left, getting the Dust Devils within two at 6-4.

The AquaSox returned the favor with a two-run, two-out rally in the top of the 7^th, pushing the lead out to 8-4, but Castillo and Zaborowski would team up an inning later to cut it back down to two. 2B Harold Coll drew a two-out walk to extend the inning to Castillo, who laced an RBI double to right-center that scored Coll to make it 8-5. Zaborowski then singled him home to get it to 8-6 but, despite getting the potential tying run aboard in that same inning, could draw no closer.

Starter Mason McGwire (0-2) gave up two runs on four hits and struck out five in four innings of work but took the loss. Everett lefty Reid Easterly got the final three outs for his first save of the year, clinching the season series between the two sides for the AquaSox.

DUST DEVILS NOTES

-Slate Alford, Hayden Alvarez, Kevyn Castillo and Ryland Zaborowski all had multi-hit games for Tri-City, with the team compiling ten hits on the night. The Dust Devils hold a 25-13 record in games in which they have at least 10 hits.

-Reliever Kyle Roche went to Triple-A Salt Lake before Saturday’s ballgame, pitching for the second time in 2026 for the Bees. The Braintree, Massachusetts native threw two innings and gave up a run on three hits in Salt Lake’s 6-5 loss to Reno, both striking out and walking two.

-The Vancouver Canadians held firm at the top of the Northwest League playoff race, downing the Eugene Emeralds 9-3 at PK Park. The Hillsboro Hops and Spokane Indians played another high-scoring contest at Avista Stadium, with Hillsboro absorbing an 8-run Spokane 1^st inning and coming back to win 15-13. The Dust Devils now sit six games back in the Second Half playoff race with 13 games to go.

Tri-City and Everett conclude their 2026 season series in the finale of their six-game set at 7:05 p.m. Sunday night at Gesa Stadium. It’s Glow Night at the ballpark, presented by Let’s Glow Mini Golf, with fans encouraged to dress in neon gear for chances to win raffle prizes. It’s also another Family Feast Night, presented by Genuine Homes, with hot dogs, 16 oz. Coca-Cola products, bags of chips and ice cream sandwiches all available for $2.50 each.

Right-hander Chase Shores (3-2, 4.50 ERA) goes to the hill for the Dust Devils, who will play as Viñeros de Tri-City for the last time this year. Righty Walter Ford (0-10, 7.18 ERA) will get the start for the AquaSox.
