With the loss, Somerset split the series with Erie, extending its streak to four consecutive weeks without losing a series (15-9 in that span).

Trailing 11-5 entering the eighth inning, Somerset scored five runs on three hits, a walk, a hit by pitch and two errors. The Patriots brought ten batters to the plate – marking the 28th time this season they’ve brought nine or more to the plate in a single inning and first time since the first inning of Game 1 on Saturday. Since August 19, Somerset is batting .290 with an .854 OPS and has scored 52 runs, averaging 3.1 per game, in the seventh inning or later.

Somerset’s offense totaled 11 hits, racking up double-digit hits for the third time in the series against Erie. The loss was Somerset’s 11th this season when tallying 10-plus hits and snapped a six-game win streak in such games.

RHP Cade Smith (5.0 IP, 6 H, 4 R, 2 BB, 5 K) worked at least 5.0 IP for the 15th time across a team-high 23 starts this season.

RHP Trent Sellers (1.0 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K) pitched a perfect eighth inning. Across his last three outings, Sellers has punched out 11 batters across six scoreless innings.

CF Jace Avina (1-for-5, RBI, SB, 2 R) skied an RBI single to center field and scored in the third inning. Avina has reached base safely in 13 of his last 14 games. In that span, he’s 16-for-59 (.271 AVG) alongside a HR, 10 RBI, 3 XBH and four multi-hit games.

SS Core Jackson (2-for-4, 2B, 2 RBI, SB, HBP, R) drilled an opposite field RBI single in the third inning before tattooing an RBI double off the right center field fence in the fifth. After his double in the fifth, Jackson stole third base for his 40th stolen base across all levels. Jackson’s 40 SB rank sixth in the Yankees farm system at the time of the game’s conclusion. Jackson is one of 24 players in Minor League Baseball to record 13 HR and 40 SB this season. Across six games against the SeaWolves this week, Jackson batted .320 with a HR, 6 RBI, 2 XBH and three multi-hit games.

2B Roderick Arias (3-for-5, RBI) collected a trio of singles for his second three-hit game with Somerset. Arias notched his second consecutive multi-hit game and eighth with the Patriots this season.

3B Coby Morales (1-for-5, R) singled and scored in the eighth inning to extend his hit streak to a season-high tying seven games. During his seven-game hit streak, Morales is 8-for-26 (.308 AVG) with five RBI. Morales has reached base safely in 29 of his last 30 games. In that span, he’s slashing .305/.426/.438 with 3 HR, 11 RBI, 6 XBH and six multi-hit games. Morales’ 127 hits this season are the most by any hitter with Somerset across a single season in franchise history.

C Manny Palencia (1-for-5) singled in the ninth inning. Palencia has reached safely in 21 of his last 23 games. During that stretch, he’s slashing .326/.359/.616 with 7 HR, 21 RBI and 11 XBH. Since the beginning of July, Palencia has 12 multi-hit games and is slashing .338/.370/.554 with 7 HR, 24 RBI and 14 XBH in 35 games. That comes after slashing .208/.288/.215 with 0 HR, 7 RBI and 1 XBH in the season’s first 46 games.

LF Cole Gabrielson (2-for-3, 2B, 2 R, HBP) extended his on-base streak to a season-high tying nine games with a double in the third inning. During Gabrielson’s nine-game on-base streak, he’s slashing .345/.441/.621 with 2 HR, 6 RBI and 4 XBH.
