Early runs and quality pitching guided the Sugar Land Space Cowboys (54-82, 21-40) to a 4-1 win over the Oklahoma City Dodgers (82-52, 32-29) on Friday night at Constellation Field.

The Sugar Land defense helped RHP Spencer Arrighetti (W, 2-4) face the minimum through the first two innings, turning a pair of double plays while César Salazar threw out two attempted base stealers. The Space Cowboys’ offense supported their starter with a trio of runs in the bottom of the second when Pedro León singled, moved to second on a wild pitch by RHP Nick Frasso (L, 1-2) and advanced to third when Shay Whitcomb rocketed a single up the middle. Whitcomb then stole second and León scored on an RBI groundout from Dixon Machado. A two-out infield single from Bligh Madris plated Whitcomb and Salazar laced a double to the left-field gap, bringing home Madris to push the Space Cowboys lead to 3-0.

Arrighetti notched his first strikeout of the night in the third and stranded a runner at third after a single and a two-base throwing error. Sugar Land added on their final run of the contest in the bottom of the frame when Corey Julks roped a double down the left-field line, advanced to third on a flyout and scored on a single inside of first by Whitcomb, widening Sugar Land’s lead to 4-0.

The Dodgers scored their only run off Arrighetti in the top of the fourth on a double from Miguel Vargas and a single by Jonny Deluca. Arrighetti only allowed one more base runner on an error during the remainder of his 5.1 innings, giving up just one run on four hits while striking out four. In eight starts at Constellation Field, Arrighetti is 2-1 with a 2.04 ERA.

Sugar Land’s bullpen handcuffed the Dodgers’ offense, with LHP Bennett Sousa (H, 1) hurling 1.0 perfect inning, striking out two in his Astros’ organizational debut. RHP Seth Martinez (H, 2) gave up just a single in 1.2 innings of work, striking out one, and RHP Enoli Paredes (S, 5) pitched a perfect ninth, striking out Ryan Ward to close out the victory.

With the series level at two games each, the Space Cowboys continue their six-game tangle with the Dodgers on Saturday night. Sugar Land will turn to RHP Brandon Bielak while Oklahoma City is scheduled to counter with RHP Gavin Stone for a 6:05 pm CT first pitch. The game can be heard on ESPN 92.5 FM or online here and seen on MiLB.TV.
