Indians Add Salish to All-Star Game Jerseys

Tribe, team showcase historic partnership during regional event
August 1, 2015

SPOKANE, WA - Extending an already historic partnership, the Spokane Indians Baseball Club and Spokane Tribe of Indians are adding the Salish language to the 2015 Northwest/Pioneer Baseball League All-Star uniforms.

ASG Salish Jerseys

The Northwest League uniform is red with tan piping and the Salish translation of Northwest as "Sulexw" stitched on the front. The official All-Star Game logo will be prominent on the left sleeve. "Northwest" will be featured in English on the back's nameplate.

The Pioneer League uniform is dark blue, with the All-Star logo on the left sleeve as well. The Salish translation of Pioneer is spelled out across the chest as "Sics Sqelixw." "Pioneer" will also be featured in English on the back's nameplate.

"All-Star Game hosts around the nation always add a little bit of their own unique identity during the event," said Otto Klein, Senior Vice President of the Spokane Indians. "This is a great opportunity to highlight our positive partnership with the Tribe and further the awareness of the Salish language."

Players will wear their individual team-issued caps during the game.

Each jersey will be up for a live auction beginning at 4:00 PM at Avista Stadium on Tuesday, August 4th as part of the All-Star Fan Fest & Home Run Derby. The auction will last through the end of the game and placed online at SpokaneIndians.com for one week, which can be found here. All proceeds will benefit the local Salvation Army Backpacks for Kids Program.
