(SUGAR LAND, Texas) – The Houston Astros announced that they have recalled right-hander from the Sugar Land Skeeters to make a start Friday against the Texas Rangers. Ivey is the first player to recalled from the Skeeters since becoming the Astros Triple A franchise prior to this season.

The 25-year-old has made two appearances (one start) with the Skeeters. He struck out seven batters in his first start of the season on May 7 at Albuquerque, which are the most in a single game from a Skeeters starter this season. Ivey is rated as the Astros’ No. 9 overall prospect.

The Astros selected Ivey in the third round of the 2017 MLB Draft from Grayson County College (Denison, Texas). Through four seasons in the Astros minor league system, Ivey has gone 8-9 with a 3.19 ERA (74 ER/208.2 IP) in 52 games (38 starts). He has struck out 256 batters through his 208 2/3 inning pitched.

In a corresponding move, the Astros optioned infielder Robel Garcia to Sugar Land. Garcia hit .190 (4x21) with two RBIs in 13 games this season with the Astros since being claimed off waivers in February.
