Auburn Wins Game and Series Over Batavia, 4-3

Doubledays race out to 4-1 lead and hold off the Muckdogs

The Auburn Doubledays, Short Season Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, defeated the Batavia Muckdogs, Short Season Class A affalite of the Miami Marlins, 4-3 at Dwyer Stadium on Thursday night. Auburn won the final two games in the three-game series.
The Doubledays (5-12) scored three runs in the top of the fourth. Oliver Ortiz doubled to right field to start the inning, extending his hit streak to ten games. Omar Meregildo then singled to drive in one run, moved to second on a walk by Jake Scudder, and a wild pitch sent Meregildo and Scudder to second and third respectively. Kameron Esthay's single brought home Meregildo, and Scudder scored on a ground out by Jonathan Pryor. Auburn scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on Wednesday night as well.
After Batavia (7-10) pushed across a run in the bottom of the fifth, Auburn responded with a run in the top of the sixth. Jake Scudder doubled to start the inning and scored with two outs on a fielding error by Muckdogs' shortstop Micah Brown. Scudder has hits in five of his first six games with Auburn.
The Muckdogs scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a walk and two doubles, but Jeremy McKinney shut out Batavia in the final two innings to clinch an Auburn victory. McKinney earned his first pro save, while Ben Braymer pitched five innings of one-run ball for his first win of the season. Manuel Rodriguez took the loss.
The Doubledays move onto State College and a three-game series with the Spikes starting Friday night at 7:05. Alex Troop makes his first start for Auburn, while Dan Castano counters for State College. The Spikes are 3-0 against the Doubledays this year.
