The Auburn Doubledays, Short Season Class A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, defeated the Batavia Muckdogs, Short Season Class A affalite of the Miami Marlins, 4-3 at Dwyer Stadium on Thursday night. Auburn won the final two games in the three-game series.
The Doubledays (5-12) scored three runs in the top of the fourth.
After Batavia (7-10) pushed across a run in the bottom of the fifth, Auburn responded with a run in the top of the sixth. Jake Scudder doubled to start the inning and scored with two outs on a fielding error by Muckdogs' shortstop Micah Brown. Scudder has hits in five of his first six games with Auburn.
The Muckdogs scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning on a walk and two doubles, but Jeremy McKinney shut out Batavia in the final two innings to clinch an Auburn victory. McKinney earned his first pro save, while
The Doubledays move onto State College and a three-game series with the Spikes starting Friday night at 7:05. Alex Troop makes his first start for Auburn, while Dan Castano counters for State College. The Spikes are 3-0 against the Doubledays this year.
