Aybar Tallies Three Hits in 8-3 Loss to Dash

Winston-Salem, North Carolina – Nicandro Aybar logged his third three-hit performance with the Bowling Green Hot Rods (76-43, 29-25) in an 8-3 loss to the Winston-Salem Dash (67-53, 29-25) on Tuesday night at Truist Stadium in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Winston-Salem struck first with two runs in the bottom of the first inning against Bowling Green starting pitcher Jose Urbina. Javier Mogollon singled, Kyle Lodise earned a walk, and George Wolkow tagged a two-run double to right field for a 2-0 Dash advantage.

The hosts added one more run against Urbina in the bottom of the second. Nick McLain blasted a solo home run to right-center field for a 3-0 lead.

The Hot Rods tied the game with three runs in the top of the fifth frame against reliever Riley Gowans. Carlos Colmenarez ripped a double, Aybar singled, and Jhon Diaz scorched a three-run home run to left field, knotting the game at 3-3.

The Dash responded with five runs in the bottom of the sixth against Bowling Green’s bullpen. Lodise slugged a go-ahead home run, Ely Brown and Mogollon collected RBI singles, creating an 8-3 Dash lead.

Neither team scored the rest of the night, ending in an 8-3 Winston-Salem victory.

Gowans (1-0) picked up the win, allowing three runs on three hits over 1.0 inning while striking out one. Jonathan Russell (2-1) was given the loss, surrendering four runs (one earned) on six hits, walking two and striking out four over 2.1 innings.

The Hot Rods and Dash play game two of a six-game series Wednesday night at 5:30 PM CT. LHP Blake Morgan (1-1, 2.70) opens for Bowling Green against Winston-Salem’s RHP Mason Moore (0-0, 10.38).
