MOOSIC, PA (May 1, 2018) - After weeks of banter between the clubs over the best "baby logo," the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders and the New Orleans Baby Cakes have decided to settle their score.
The RailRiders, Triple-A affiliate of the New York Yankees and a member of the International League, have long dubbed themselves as the Baby Bombers; the younger generation of those sluggers in the Bronx. The Baby Cakes, Triple-A affiliate of the Miami Marlins and member of the Pacific Coast League, rebranded last year to pay close heritage to their New Orleans roots.
"There is no question," exclaimed Josh Olerud, RailRiders Team President/ General Manager, "that we have the better bambino logo. The Bronx Bombers are the most historic franchise in baseball history. Ruth. Gehrig. Mantle. As their Triple-A affiliate, the Baby Bombers are the iconic class of the sport.
This feud took a turn recently on social media as Olreud and Cookie Rojas, the general manager of the Baby Cakes, took turns proclaiming their brand the best.
"We are going to dominate this feud and be crowned kings," Olerud added. "We are the real thing and this is going to be a piece of cake."
Until July 30, the two teams will run an extensive promotion to settle this once and for all. Several factors will be used to decide the winner of this dispute:
* Each team will conduct a diaper drive locally. The RailRiders diaper drive, set with a goal of 5,000 packages of diapers, will benefit the baby and children's pantry at St. Joseph's Center in Scranton.
* A Twitter Hashtag Count- Fans can use the hashtag #TeamBabyBombers to represent their favorite club.
On-field record will be used as the tiebreaker.
"We have the power of New York and Scranton/Wilkes-Barre fans behind us," Olerud continued. "We know they still recovering from the dunder of Mardi Gras, and they shouldn't be so miffed that we are the better bambino."
Victory will bring spoils and bragging for the better bambinos. The losing club will present a $2,500 donation check in the winning team's city for the winning team's charity. While in that city, the losing club's general manager will be put to work by the winning team, including but not limited to grounds crew work, concessions, in-game promotions and stadium clean-up. The losing bambino's front office staff will have to wear the winning team's gear for an August home game.
Fans of both clubs have the chance to help and benefit all at the same time while supporting their favorite bambinos. All Baby Bomber supporters will receive a free lawn ticket with every pack of diapers donated. Donations will also enter RailRiders fans into monthly giveaways for autographed "Baby Bombers" gear or merchandise.
One lucky fan from each city who either makes a diaper donation or participates in the hashtag campaign will be selected to win a trip to Miami to watch the Yankees play against the Marlins.
Diaper donations can be made during normal office hours at the administration office or on game days at the display near the fan services center.
Information is available online at BattleoftheBambinos.com, a new website dedicated to this young feud, or by calling the RailRiders box office at 570-969-BALL.
