PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (May 28, 2017) - Ryan Boldt and Brandon Lowe delivered back-to-back home runs Sunday to jump-start a 6-1 Charlotte Stone Crabs win over the Fort Myers Miracle at Charlotte Sports Park.
With the Stone Crabs (23-25) trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Boldt banked one off the Rays' front office building in right, before Lowe peppered the picnic area in right center just two pitches later.
Boldt reached base five times on the day, finishing the series 7-for-11 with a double, home run, walk and three runs scored.
With Charlotte still up 2-1 in the sixth, Dalton Kelly walked to start the inning. After advancing to second on an error by the pitcher, David Rodríguez moved Kelly to third on a groundout. David Olmedo-Barrera followed with a fly ball to right to score Kelly and make it 3-1 Stone Crabs. After a walk and a hit by pitch, Jake Cronenworth singled to center to extend the Charlotte lead to 4-1.
With the score the same in the seventh, Kelly was plunked with a pitch and then stole second. Two batters later, Olmedo-Barrera singled to right to bring in Kelly and make the score 5-1.
Still up by that margin in the eighth, Cronenworth, Boldt and Lowe all singled with two outs to make the tally 6-1 Stone Crabs.
Charlotte starter Benton Moss (1-0) was terrific in his 2017 debut, allowing only one unearned run while striking out seven over five innings to earn the win.
Eduar Lopez followed with three shutout innings while fanning four, before Brandon Lawson worked a hitless ninth.
The Stone Crabs will enjoy their Memorial Day off before starting a four-game series with the Tampa Yankees on Tuesday at 7p.m. Coverage of that game begins at 6:45 p.m. on the Stone Crabs Baseball Network.
