LANSING, Mich. – Austin Beck supplied a home run and an RBI single, and Grant Holman struck out seven in six innings to lead the Lansing Lugnuts (4-8) to a 2-0 victory over the Fort Wayne TinCaps (7-5) on Thursday night at Jackson® Field™.

The game was played in one hour and 59 minutes, the Lugnuts’ first nine-inning game under two hours since April 8, 2019.

The TinCaps not only entered the game on a four-game winning streak, they had scored 19 runs in the first two games of the series – but fell victim to the Lugnuts’ first shutout of the year.

Beck (3-for-3) supplied all the offense Lansing would need with his first home run of the year, a no-doubt blast to left field in the second inning against Fort Wayne starter Ryan Bergert. Four innings later, he legged out a two-out RBI single, assisted by the setting sun in the eyes of TinCaps first baseman Jack Stronach, to double the lead.

The rest belonged to Holman and a pair of relievers in an impressive performance. Holman, the A’s sixth-round selection in 2021 from California, allowed the leadoff hitter to reach in five of his six innings but held Fort Wayne to one hit in 12 at-bats with a runner on base. He has now struck out 18 batters while walking just one in 15 innings to open the year.

Trayson Kubo followed suit, firing a perfect seventh with two strikeouts before pitching around a leadoff single in the eighth, notching a third strikeout.

Angello Infante wrapped things up with a four-pitch 1-2-3 ninth, recording his second save.

The fourth game of the six-game series arrives on a LAFCU Frontline Friday, with Lugnuts right-hander Stevie Emanuels (8.10 ERA) facing TinCaps southpaw Jackson Wolf (3.38 ERA). Gates open at 5 p.m. with first pitch at 6:05 p.m. Tickets are available for purchase at the stadium box office, at lansinglugnuts.com and by calling (517) 485-4500.
