The Birmingham Barons are happy to announce new upgrades to Regions Field prior to the start of the 2020 season. This season's upgrades include new AirFlow Mesh seats for the newly named Dread River Lounge and the extension of netting around the ballpark.

Beginning this year, Dread River Lounge guests will be able to enjoy new AirFlow Mesh balcony seating which will provide a comfortable outdoor seating experience during Barons games. The new breathable seats will allow air to constantly flow through the individual strands of the elastromeric mesh, which will reduce the seat surface up to 65 degrees. The cushioned seat pan and back distributes weight evenly, eliminating pressure points and leaving fans cool and comfortable. The material used in these new seats will allow them to dry instantly after a rainstorm.
To further ensure fan safety, the Barons will also be extending protective netting at Regions Field prior to the 2020 season; running it further down both base lines. Fans sitting on the first base side will have the net extended from the edge of the dugout to section 119, as those sitting on the third base side will see the net extended into the lawn section underneath the Party Pad. Local Alabama company, Net Connection, will extend the stadium net by using #18 knotted Dyneema netting. The advantages of this netting compared to the standard nylon netting is that it has a stronger break strength (383 lbs.), and is half the size which allows for more visibility through the net.
"Regions Field continues to be a special ballpark that has not only contributed to the revitalization of downtown but also added to the quality of life for the entire metro area," said Barons General Manager Jonathan Nelson. "2020 marks our 8th season at Regions Field and each year we along with the City of Birmingham aim to add new ballpark amenities that will positively enhance everyone's experiences at Barons games. This year by replacing and adding new, state of the art balcony seating in the Dread River Lounge and by extending the foul ball netting we are confident these additions will positively impact our visitor's experiences for many years to come."
All upgrades for Regions Field will be completed prior to Opening Night on Thursday, April 9th as the Barons begin the season with a five-game homestand against the Rocket City Trash Pandas.
