AMARILLO – Pedro León belted two home runs in Corpus Christi’s 14-hit attack Tuesday night as the Hooks picked up their third-straight victory with a 10-6 decision over the Sod Poodles before 4,905 fans at Hodgetown.

Corpus Christi (14-16) has claimed six of the seven contests against Amarillo (13-18).

The Hooks engineered an early 4-0 lead by sending seven men to bat in the first. Jake Adams capped the frame with a two-run home run to left field off Luis Frias. It was Adams’ second homer in the last three games.

After permitting a run in the first, CC starter Brett Daniels posted zeros over the next three frames.

León restored the lead to four at 5-1 in the second with a lead-off homer to left-center.

With two away in the fourth, Norel González chased home J.J. Matijevic by smoking a double off the fence in center.

Matijevic, who extended his hit streak to eight games, scored twice and reached base three times. González has plated seven runs over the last two games.

The Sod Poodles cut it to a 6-3 CC advantage by adding markers in the fifth and sixth.

León answered in the seventh by launching a 2-1 pitch from Matt Brill over the fence in left-center. The two-out, two-run poke accounted for the Cuban slugger’s first stateside multi-homer performance.

Amarillo pulled to within 8-6 when Dominic Fletcher cleared the bases with a three-run double against Cesar Rosado.

Bolstered by a pair of insurance runs in the ninth, Brandon Lawson earned his seventh save by blanking the home club over the final 2.1 innings.

A pair of southpaws will toe the slab Wednesday night as Corpus Christi’s Parker Mushinski clashes against Tommy Henry. First pitch 7:05.
