PEARL, MS -- Max Fried (2-4) struggled in his fourth start at Trustmark Park, a 6-0 defeat, giving up four runs in five innings of work on seven hits. The Mississippi Braves (17-17) lost two in a row to the Mobile BayBears (14-20) and now sit a game out of first place in the South Division with series finale set for Friday night.
The M-Braves could not carry the hot hitting of the past three games into tonight, as the BayBears used four pitchers to hold Mississippi to four hits on the evening. Starter Osmer Morales, No. 22 prospect for the Los Angeles Angels, spun 4.1 innings of spectacular baseball, striking out six and surrendering just one hit, a lead-off single in the first. Abel De Los Santos, Tyler Warmoth and Ivan Hernandez combined to hold the M-Braves to just three hits the rest of the way, with De Los Santos (1-1, 7.20) picking up the victory.
Luis Valenzuela, Travis Demeritte and Levi Hyams recorded the hits for Mississippi, with Hyams going 2-for-3 in his second game of the season since returning from the disabled list.

On the mound, Fried worked around two-out singles in the first and third with no trouble. The fourth was a different story. Nine BayBears came up to bat in the inning as the visitors plated four runs on five hits and a walk to take a quick 4-0 lead.
Michael Mader pitched the sixth and seventh in scoreless relief, keeping the game within reach for the offense before giving way to Chad Sobotka in the eighth. Sobotka was perfect in his first inning, but was tapped for two runs on two hits in the ninth, as two walked batters came around to score the final insurance runs of the game.
The fifth and final game of the series is Friday at 7:00 PM. Fans can listen live at 103.9 fm or wyab.com.
