BOWIE, MD – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies, the Double-A affiliate of the New York Mets, defeated the Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, 2-0, in a rain-shortened game called as official in the top of the seventh inning at Prince George's Stadium on Friday night.

Levi Wells (L, 0-3) started the game for Chesapeake (23-25) and went 4.2 innings, allowing just one run. He touched 99 miles per hour on his fastball, which helped him strike out four. Binghamton scored the first run of the game in the third when Williams singled, stole a base, advanced to third on a groundout, and came across on a wild pitch.

In the fifth, Enrique Bradfield Jr. threw out a run at the plate when Ryan Clifford tried to score from second on a Nick Lorusso single, keeping the score at 1-0. The Rumble Ponies eventually picked up one more run in the seventh, when a wild pitch allowed Kevin Parada to cross home.

Shortly after, continued hard precipitation that fell throughout the night forced the game into a 34-minute delay, with the umpires eventually calling the game official.

At the plate, the Baysox tallied two hits across their six trips to the plate against Rumble Ponies starter Zach Thornton (W, 2-0), who struck out eight batters on the night. Fredrick Bencosme scratched a hustle double in the second and Adam Retzbach singled in the third. Retzbach extended his on-base streak to nine games on Friday.

Game five of this six-game series is scheduled for Saturday at 6:35 p.m. at Prince George’s Stadium. Nestor German (1-1, 4.22 ERA) is expected to start for Chesapeake against Jack Wenninger (5-2, 2.70 ERA) for Binghamton.
