Bowie, MD (September 6, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, lost to the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, by a 9-7 final on Sunday afternoon.

In its home regular season finale, Chesapeake (34-29, 63-67) carried an early 3-1 lead into the fourth before Portland scored seven combined runs across the fourth and fifth innings. The Baysox came back within one when they scored a fourth straight run in the eighth but couldn't ever fully erase the deficit.

The Sea Dogs took an opening lead in the second off of Baysox left-handed starter Sebastian Gongora. Henry Godbout (3-for-5) led the inning off with a home run to left center field.

Against Portland right-handed starter Caleb Bolden, Chesapeake took a lead right back, 2-1, with a two-run home half of the second inning. Victor Figeuroa and Tavian Josenberger (3-for-5) reached on a walk and double, respectively, before they both scored on a Anderson De Los Santos two-out, looping two-run single to left-center field.

One of Chesapeake's best bats as of late extended the Baysox lead to 3-1 in the third. Vance Honeycutt (3-for-5, two extra-base hits) blasted a solo home run off the batter's eye in center field for his third home run in 16 Double-A games.

Against Portland this week, Honeycutt led the Baysox with a .409 (9-for-22) average, three doubles, five RBI, and three stolen bases while playing in all six games.

In a no-decision, Gongora pitched three innings and gave up one hit on three runs with five strikeouts before being relieved by right-hander Alex Pham.

Portland took a one-run lead in the fourth inning off Pham. Tyler McDonough hit a three-run home run to right field to put the Sea Dogs up 4-3. The home run succeeded a Baysox error in the field, Chesapeake's first since last Friday at Harrisburg, which made the three runs unearned against Pham (L, 0-3).

Sea Dogs right-handed reliever Max Carlson (W, 6-2) tossed three, one-run innings from the third to the fifth to earn the win.

Portland extended its lead to 8-3 with a four-run fifth inning. Against righty Richard Guasch, Johanfran Garcia scored on a balk before the Sea Dogs hit back-to-back homers. Will Turner hit a two-run shot to right center field before Max Ferguson left the same part of the park a few pitches later.

The Baysox cut the deficit to two runs with a three-run sixth. First, Honeycutt led the inning off with a bunt single, stole second, and scored an a Ethan Anderson RBI single.

Anderson came home a few batters later when Victor Figueroa demolished a two-run home run to right center field, his fifth Double-A home run, for a 8-6 Portland lead.

Figueroa's home run was his Orioles minor league-leading 27th of the season across High-A Frederick and Double-A Chesapeake.

Right-handed reliever Jeisson Cabrera struck out two while pitching a scoreless sixth and seventh inning.

Chesapeake cut the lead to 8-7 in the bottom of the eighth. Josenberger singled and scored when Anderson De Los Santos reached on a Portland error down the third base line.

Baysox righty Ryan Long pitched a one-two-three eighth inning before coming back out to pitch the ninth. Long was charged with the Sea Dogs' ninth and final run when Henry Godbout scored on a wild pitch.

Against Portland lefty Tyler Davis (S, 1), Chesapeake was retired in order in the bottom of the ninth.

To end the regular season, the Baysox travel to CarMax Park for a six-game series at the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, that begins Tuesday, September 8th, at 7:05 pm.
