Harrisburg, PA (August 30, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, were walked off by the Harrisburg Senators, the Double-A affiliate of the Washington Nationals, by a 5-4 final on Sunday afternoon, courtesy of a Caleb Lomavita ninth-inning, two-run home run.
Lomavita plated four of five Senators runs on Sunday, including a pair of homers in the seventh and ninth inning.
Chesapeake (31-25, 60-64) used its own pair of home runs to grab a lead in the first half of the contest. The game remained scoreless until the top of the fourth. Ethan Anderson and Victor Figueroa both singled consecutively to open the frame, with the later gathering his second hit of the contest. After consecutive strikeouts followed, Colin Tuft cashed in with a two-out, three-run home run to the opposite field to establish a 3-0 Chesapeake lead. Tuft’s second Double-A long ball sailed over the Baysox bullpen in right field.

An inning later, Aron Estrada sailed a solo home run to left-center field for his team-leading 23rd long ball of the campaign. It was Estrada’s second hit of the game and third home run from the right side of the plate this season. The 21-year-old switch hitter is batting .372 from the right side of the plate since July 9.

Harrisburg trimmed away at the deficit in the back half of Sunday’s contest. After allowing just one hit in the opening four innings, Baysox left-handed starter Sebastian Gongora was greeted with two consecutive hits to begin the bottom of the fifth, including an RBI single from Lomavita. Gongora allowed a solo homer to Nationals rehabbing outfielder James Wood in the sixth, but finished with his fifth quality start of 2026, yielding just two runs in six innings, while walking none and striking out five.

Gongora’s ERA sits at 3.64 on the season – second-best in the Eastern League among qualified arms. His 116 and one-third innings pitched ranks fourth among league pitchers.
Lomavita made it a one-run contest in the seventh, with an opposite-field solo homer off newly introduced Chesapeake right-hander Christian Herberholz.
The Baysox had a chance to add on in the top of the ninth. With the bases loaded and two outs, Wehiwa Aloy barreled a one-hopper to second 110 mph off the bat, but it was handled by the Senators’ Devin Fitz-Gerald on a nice play to keep Chesapeake off the board against right-hander Sandy Gaston (W, 4-5)
In the bottom of the ninth, Herberholz (L, 2-3) yielded a leadoff single to Elijah Green. Two batters later, Lomavita worked a 10-pitch at bat, sailing a full-count offering out to left-center field to end the contest and handing the Baysox their fourth walk-off loss of the season.
Chesapeake took four of six games in the series from Harrisburg. The Baysox sit six games behind the Erie SeaWolves for the second half playoff spot in the Eastern League’s Southwest division, with 12 regular season contests remaining on the schedule.
Chesapeake returns home for one final homestand in 2026 on Tuesday, September 1, when they kick off a six-game series against the Portland Sea Dogs, the Double-A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox. First pitch on Tuesday is scheduled for 6:35 pm. Single-game tickets, ticket plans, and group offers for the 2026 season are currently on sale.
