Bowie, MD (May 8, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, won their third-straight game over the Altoona Curve, the Double-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates, by a 5-1 final on Friday night.

Four Chesapeake (14-16) arms combined to keep the Altoona bats in check on Friday. After Altoona struck for an early 1-0 lead three batters in, right-handed starter Christian Herberholz allowed no further damage. The right-hander completed four frames for the first time at Double-A. He retired eight of the last nine hitters faced.

The Baysox bullpen matched the efficiency with three relievers posting scoreless outings. Right-hander Daniel Lloyd loaded the bases with no outs in the sixth but wiggled out of the jam with a strikeout and double-play ball. Right-hander Jeisson Cabrera (W, 2-1) added two frames and left-hander Micah Ashman struck out the side in the ninth.

At the plate, the Baysox immediately answered the early Curve run. After a one-out walk to Jackson Holliday, Thomas Sosa took Altoona right-handed starter Khristian Curtis (L, 0-5) deep to the left of center field. Sosa’s second homer of the season established a 2-1 Chesapeake lead.

Holliday drew three walks and went 0-for-1 in the second game of his major league rehab assignment, while playing six innings at second base.

The Baysox added on a run in the fourth. Chesapeake loaded the bases on two hits and a walk. Adam Retzbach came home on a wild pitch to make it a 3-1 score. Retzbach was not done there. Two innings later, his two-out, two-run single tacked on a pair to extend the lead to 5-1.

Frederick Bencosme tallied his first three-hit game of the season with two doubles. Maverick Handley notched a pair of hits and reached base three times.

The Baysox go for a series win on Saturday night. Right-hander Evan Yates (1-1, 6.33 ERA) is set to take the ball for Chesapeake against Altoona’s left-hander, Connor Wietgrefe (1-1, 4.56 ERA). First pitch is set for 6:35 pm from Prince George’s Stadium.
