(Burlington, IA) - The Burlington Bees (21-33) lost the series finale to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (33-24), 11-6, on Sunday afternoon at Community Field. 

(Burlington, IA) - The Burlington Bees (21-33) lost the series finale to the Cedar Rapids Kernels (33-24), 11-6, on Sunday afternoon at Community Field. 

The Bees started the scoring on Sunday, taking the lead with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. Jordan Zimmerman singled to left and advanced to second on an error. The next batter, Brennan Morgan, gave the Bees the lead, smacking a single to right, scoring Zimmerman, giving the Bees a 1-0 lead. John Schuknecht then dumped a single into center field, scoring Morgan, extending the Bees' lead to 2-0.
Cedar Rapids sent nine men to the plate in the second inning. With two outs, Bees' starter Sam Pastrone issued back-to-back walks to Caleb Hamilton and Christian Caveness. Brandon Lopez then tied the game by sending a triple to right-center, scoring both Hamilton and Caveness. With two runners on, Travis Blankenhorn singled in a pair, upping the lead to 4-2. The Kernels capped off the inning with a RBI double from Jermaine Palacios, making the score 5-2.
After Cedar Rapids added a run in the top of the third, the Bees got the offense going again in the bottom half of the third inning. Jeyson Sanchez got things started with a two-out walk and moved to second on a Juan Moreno single. The Bees picked up a pair of runs on back-to-back singles by Derek Jenkins and Jahmai Jones, cutting the deficit to 6-4.
Trailing 7-4 in the sixth, the Bees picked up a run on a Jordan Zimmerman ground out. John Schuknecht smacked a solo home run in the seventh to make it a one-run game at 7-6. 
The Kernels pulled away in the eighth, scoring four runs on a pair of two-run homers from Caleb Hamilton and Travis Blankenhorn as the Bees dropped the series finale, 11-6. 
Kernels' starting pitcher Eduardo Del Rosario (5-3) earned the win while Sam Pastrone (1-5) was charged with the loss. Following the off day tomorrow, the Bees welcome in the Beloit Snappers on Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. for Hawk Eye Two-for-Tuesday. NOTES: Keith Grieshaber singled in the eighth inning and now has a hit in each of his first four games as a Burlington Bee. Julian Leon singled in his first at-bat with the Bees. Derek Jenkins picked up his first multi-hit game of the season. Sean Isaac lowered his ERA to 1.10 with three scoreless innings.
