Bees Can't Overcome Snappers

(Burlington, IA) - The Burlington Bees (22-34) could not complete the comeback, losing 4-3 to the Beloit Snappers (30-28) on Wednesday night at Community Field. 

(Burlington, IA) - The Burlington Bees (22-34) could not complete the comeback, losing 4-3 to the Beloit Snappers (30-28) on Wednesday night at Community Field. 

Beloit jumped out in front in the second inning thanks to a two-run double from Luis Berrera, giving the Snappers a 2-0 lead. 
The Bees got on the board in the bottom of the second inning. With one out, John Schuknecht reached on a two-base throwing error. Brennan Morgan then chopped a single up the middle into center field, scoring Schuknecht, cutting the deficit to 2-1.
Beloit would add to their lead in the third with their second consecutive two-run inning. Miguel Mercedes opened the inning with a double to left and then moved to third on an Edwin Diaz single. Trace Loehr then drove in Mercedes with a single, upping the Beloit lead to 3-1. Eric Mariñez then extended Beloit's lead to 4-1 with a single to left, scoring Diaz. 
With one out in the bottom of the fourth inning, Julian Leon singled up the middle and then moved to third on a John Schuknecht double. Brennan Morgan knocked in his second run of the game with a groundout, scoring Leon. Juan Moreno then made it a one-run game with a RBI single to left, scoring Schuknecht, cutting the Snappers' lead to 4-3.
That was the closest the Bees would get as Beloit's bullpen held the Bees scoreless from the fourth inning on. Beloit reliever Xavier Altamirano (2-1) picked up the win while Erik Manoah Jr. (1-4) was charged with the loss and Sam Sheehan (3) picked up the save. 
The Bees and Snappers will finish the series Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. for the Buffalo Tavern Thirsty Thursday. Enjoy drink specials on all beer and Pepsi products throughout the game. NOTES:Julian Leon has five hits in his first 13 at-bats with the Bees. Keith Grieshaber extended his hitting streak to six games with a single in the fifth. Erik Manoah Jr. was charged with two balks and leads the team with seven this season. John Schuknecht also extended his hitting streak to six games with a double.
