Bees throw one hitter in shutout win over Wisconsin
Bees allow just one hit to the Timber Rattlers in their 4-0 victory
Appleton, WI. - It was a dominating night on the mound for the Burlington Bees (12-25,42-64), as they shut down the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (18-21,49-59) to win 4-0. Austin Krzeminski (4-4) earned his fourth win in his three innings of relief where he allowed the only hit of the game for the Bees, walked one, and struck out four. Dylan File (6-9) didn't have his usual stuff in his 19^th start, as he allowed three runs on six hits, allowed one walk, and stuck out six in five innings of work.
Bees get momentum early after three run first
The Bees didn't wait around to get the offense going, as Torii Hunter Jr. and Leonardo Rivas started the inning off with back to back singles to get runners at first and second. Spencer Griffin brought those two in on his fifth triple of the season to give the Bees a 2-0 lead. Tim Millard then hit a hard grounder to second for a groundout, but it was enough to allow Griffin to score, giving Millard his first RBI with the Bees and giving the Bees a 3-0 lead.
Garcia adds run in eighth
The Bees had more scoring opportunities in the game but couldn't find a way to drive in any runs until the eighth inning. Like in the first, the Bees got back to back singles to start the inning, but they came from Griffin and Millard this time. That set up Julio Garcia to drive in a one out single to center to score Griffin, giving the Bees a 4-0 lead. Burlington still had runners on first and second after the Garcia single, but Harrison Wenson and Alexis Olmeda both struck out to end the inning.
Bees continue great pitching
The Bees got solid start from Jose Soriano, pitching four innings for the third time this year, allowing no hits, striking out four, but he did allow four walks. Soriano has not allowed a run in the three games he went four innings and has now had four shutout appearances now this season. Although Soriano has had issues with giving up runs early and has had issues with control, he has shown signs of improvement in his off speed pitches to go along with his fastball.
The Bees also got another great outing from Mayky Perez. Perez threw the final two innings and allowed just one walk and threw one strikeout. Perez lowered his season ERA to 2.38 last night and hitters are now hitting just .097 against him. Like Soriano, Perez has had issues with his control at times, as he has allowed 18 walks in 22.2 innings pitched. However, he has managed to get out of jams this year to keep runs off the board.
Hunter and Griffin continue solid hitting
Although Torii Hunter's eleven game hitting streak came to an end on July 31^st, that didn't stop him to start another one in last night's game. Hunter batted in the leadoff spot once again and went 2-4 with a walk and stole his 22^nd base of the season. Spencer Griffin also finished the game 2-4 and drove in another two runs, bringing his season total up to 30 this season. Griffin has now had two hits in four of his past five games and has driven in four runs in that span.
Another debut for Burlington
The Bees had another player make their debut for the team last night, number 26 Kiki Menendez. Menendez had a big career at Texas Wesleyan, where he hit .471, hit 22 homeruns, and finished with 71 RBI's in his 2018 season. While in Orem, Menendez hit .293, hit seven homeruns, and drove in 21 runs in just 24 games. Menendez was an outfielder in college but started the game at first last night for the Bees, and also went 1-4 with two strikeouts at the plate.
Looking Ahead
With both teams winning a game, both will look to take the series in the finale tomorrow night at 7:05. The Bees have not announced an expected starter, but Wisconsin is expected to go with Aaron Ashby. Ashby had a solid start in his debut with Wisconsin, throwing six shutout innings, allowing six hits, no walks, and six strikeouts to earn the victory against the Kane County.
