Bees Topped in Extras, 4-3

Schuknecht homers and collects three hits in loss

(Burlington, IA) - The Burlington Bees (35-45) lost their second straight game, losing 4-3 in extra innings to the Quad Cities River Bandits (44-35) on Sunday afternoon at Community Field. 

(Burlington, IA) - The Burlington Bees (35-45) lost their second straight game, losing 4-3 in extra innings to the Quad Cities River Bandits (44-35) on Sunday afternoon at Community Field. 

Borth starting pitchers tossed three scoreless innings to start the game. With one out in the top of the fourth inning, Carmen Benedetti doubled down the left-field line. Chuckie Robinson put the River Bandits on top, smashing a two-run homer to right, giving Quad Cities a 2-0. 
After leaving a pair of runners on base in the fifth inning, the Bees cashed in, in the sixth. With one out, Jordan Zimmerman singled to left and moved to second on a walk. John Schuknecht smacked a three-run home run to left, giving the Bees a 3-2 lead.
Quad Cities fought back to tie the game in the eighth. With one out, Daz Cameron reached on an infield single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Carmen Benedetti then singled to right field, scoring Cameron, tying the game at three.
The game would head to extra innings and Quad Cities took the lead in the 11th inning. With one out, Ronnie Dawson walked and moved to third on a Wander Franco single. After a walk loaded the bases, Josh Rojas hit a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Dawson, giving the River Bandits a 4-3 lead. 
Jordan Zimmerman started the bottom of the 11th inning with a single and moved to second base on a two-out single from John Schuknecht. Erasmo Pinales (5) struck out Sam McDonnell, to end the game, securing the 4-3 win for Quad Cities.
River Bandits' reliever Kevin Hill (2-1) earned the win while Ty Barkell (1-3) was charged with the loss for the Bees. The Bees and the River Bandits will finish the series on Monday night at 6:30 p.m. as Joe Gatto makes the start for the Bees against Gabriel Valdez for Quad Cities. NOTES: Jordan Zimmerman extended his hitting streak to nine games. John Schuknecht homered in back-to-back games for the second time this season. With the loss, the Bees are now 1-8 against the Quad Cities River Bandits this season.
