Big Crowd Sees Big Scoring, Tri-City Defeated in Extras

PASCO – A six-run lead midway through the game got away Friday night from the Tri-City Dust Devils (27-37 2H, 62-68), who came back to force extra innings but fell 13-10 in ten innings to the Vancouver Canadians (37-27 2H, 64-66) in front of 3,276 fans at Gesa Stadium.

LF Kevyn Castillo provided early power for Tri-City with a three-run home run in the bottom of the 1^st inning, giving the home team a lead that would shrink over the next two innings but hold up to the 4^th inning at 3-2. There C Alberto Rios (single) and RF Jorge Ruiz (triple) each struck two-run hits, and Ruiz later scored on a wild pitch to complete a five-run inning and hand the Dust Devils an 8-2 lead.

Vancouver began to turn the tide in the top of the 6^th, putting up four runs to get within two at 8-6. Tri-City 2B Adrian Placencia would answer, though, homering to right for his first longball since July 8 and making it a 9-6 game. The Canadians then threw a second haymaker by repeating their 6^th inning feat, scoring four runs to take a 10-9 lead. The visitors capped the frame with a two-run home run by former Dust Devil, now Canadian RF David Calabrese. The home nine replied immediately, though, with Ruiz lining a homer over the right field wall on the first pitch of the bottom of the 7^th to tie the game at 10-10.

Neither team scored in the final two frames of regulation, so the contest went to the 10^th. There Tri-City reliever Kyle Roche (3-1) ended up in a bases loaded, one out situation and Vancouver drew a run-scoring walk and lined back-to-back RBI singles to center to plate three runs. Canadians reliever Reece Wissinger (5-3) finished off three scoreless innings by getting three outs in the bottom of the 10^th to finish the win.

DUST DEVILS NOTES

-Alberto Rios (2-for-3, sac bunt, 2 RBI) and Jorge Ruiz (2-for-5, HR, 3B, 3 RBI) stitched together multi-hit games, with both extending long streaks. Rios has hits in nine straight games and has reached base in 19 consecutive contests, while Ruiz has hits in seven straight games.

-Starter Mason McGwire went four innings and gave up two runs, striking out seven in getting a no-decision. Reliever Fulton Lockhart got five outs between the 8^th and 9^th innings without giving up a run or hit.

-Vancouver’s win kept them a half-game ahead in the overall Second Half standings of the Eugene Emeralds, who beat the Hillsboro Hops 3-2 at Hops Ballpark. The Spokane Indians got in the win column at Avista Stadium, coming back from a 6-1 deficit and scoring twice in the bottom of the 9^th to take a 7-6 walk-off win over the Everett AquaSox.

PENULTIMATE

Tri-City and Vancouver play the second-to-last games of their respective regular seasons at 6:30 p.m. Saturday night at Gesa Stadium, doubling as game five of their six-game series. The final postgame fireworks show of the 2026 season will light the sky above the Tri, presented by CO-Energy. Right-hander Chase Shores (3-3, 5.08 ERA) will make his final start of the 2026 Northwest League season for the Dust Devils, taking on righty Silvano Hechavarria (2-5, 7.12 ERA) of the Canadians.
