BOX SCORE

Bowie, MD (August 18, 2026) – The Chesapeake Baysox, the Double-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, used a pair of big innings to beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels, the Double-A affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, in a 7-2 final Tuesday.

Chesapeake (26-19, 55-58) plated three runs in both the fourth and eighth innings to build a lead it never conceded against Richmond. The Baysox scored seven of the final eight runs against the Flying Squirrels, capped off by a Wehiwa Aloy two-run home run.

Left-hander Caden Hunter, the Orioles' No. 4 prospect and a Top-100 overall prospect via MLB.com, started and pitched to the win by tossing five one-run innings with a couple of strikeouts.

Hunter (W, 2-2) worked out of a few jams and stranded six Flying Squirrels on base, four of which were left in scoring position.

Richmond took an opening, 1-0 lead in the second inning. With runners on the corners, the Flying Squirrels executed a double steal that brought Lisbel Diaz home from third base.

The Baysox knotted the score at one with a run in the third. Tavian Josenberger led the inning off with a walk and reached third on a Colin Tuft single. Josenberger then came home when Chesapeake grounded into a double play.

After tying the game, Chesapeake took a 4-1 lead against Richmond left-handed starter Greg Farone (L, 5-10) in the fourth. The first four Baysox batters all reached to start the frame and the opening three scored.

Dom Keegan roped a double off the bat at 113 miles per hour and Thomas Sosa was hit by a pitch before they each scored on back-to-back RBI singles. Griff O'Ferrall first gave Chesapeake a lead with a right field base hit that scored Keegan.

Sosa scored a few pitches later when Vance Honeycutt singled to left field -- Honeycutt's first Double-A hit and RBI as he debuted at the level Tuesday.

Honeycutt, who has stolen a team-high 28 bases for High-A Frederick so far this season, had two stolen bases during a 1-for-3 Baysox debut.

Left-hander Sebastian Gongora relieved Hunter in the sixth inning and earned a couple of strikeouts across three, one-run innings. Charlie Szykowny cut the Baysox lead to 4-2 with a solo home run to right center in the sixth.

The Baysox emphatically plated their final three runs in the bottom of the eighth. Tuft put Chesapeake ahead 5-2 and earned his first Double-A RBI with a center field single that scored Honeycutt.

A batter after Tuft, Aloy added the exclamation mark to Chesapeake's win with the towering two-run home run to left field -- his fourth Double-A home run across 19 games.

Right-hander Ryan Long ended the game by facing the minimum in the ninth inning.

Samuel Basallo continued a MLB rehab Tuesday by batting third and playing nine innings of first base. Basallo went 0-for-5 while making a couple of nice plays in the field, including his catch of a seventh inning-ending lineout.

Chesapeake continues its six-game set against Richmond Wednesday. The Baysox are set to send out left-hander Joseph Dzierwa (3-1, 1.89 ERA) against Flying Squirrels' right-hander Trystan Vrieling (5-2, 4.34 ERA). First pitch Wednesday is set for 6:35 pm from Prince George’s Stadium.
