For a second consecutive game, the Biloxi Shuckers (35-33, 1-0 2nd Half) rallied for a victory, coming back to top the Mississippi Braves (29-41, 0-1 2nd Half) 3-2 on Tuesday night at MGM Park.

Mississippi struck for a run in the first as the initial two batters each singled and executed a double steal to swipe home, putting the M-Braves up 1-0. Mississippi would add on another in the second on an RBI single by Yariel Gonzalez, but RHP Justin Bullock didn’t allow a run the rest of the night.

For the M-Braves, LHP Jared Shuster allowed just three hits through his first six innings before the Shuckers broke through. Noah Campbell walked on four pitches to start the frame and Andruw Monasterio doubled down the right-field line, putting two men in scoring position. Shuster held the runners with a pop up before he was replaced by LHP Hayden Deal (L, 2-2; BS,2). Thomas Dillard hit a grounder to first that bounced off Drew Lugbauer, scoring Campbell to pull the Shuckers within a run at 2-1.

On the mound for Biloxi, RHP Carlos Luna (W, 3-4) retired the first six hitters that he faced, giving up just one hit between the sixth, seventh and eighth innings.

In the home half of the seventh, Felix Valerio doubled to begin the inning and scored on a one-out single by Jason Lopez, tying the game at 2-2. Lopez advanced to third on a single by Yeison Coca, who came in as a pinch hitter, putting runners at the corners with one out. Campbell then flied out in foul territory down the right-field line, just deep enough to allow Lopez to tag up and score, giving the Shuckers a 3-2 lead.

Luna came back out for the ninth and worked a groundout for the first out before Gonzalez doubled. Riley Delgado then lined out to right, sending the runner to third, and Cade Bunnell walked to put men on the edges. Luna responded with a strikeout of Cody Milligan to lock down the series-opening victory for the Shuckers.

Biloxi continues their six-game set against the M-Braves on Wednesday night at MGM Park. RHP Victor Castañeda (1-2, 2.75) takes the hill for the Shuckers against M-Braves RHP Alan Rangel (2-2, 4.95) for a 6:35 pm first pitch.
