After falling behind late, the Biloxi Shuckers (56-54, 22-21 2nd Half) rallied to top the Montgomery Biscuits (55-50, 27-16 2nd Half) 5-4 on Friday night at Riverwalk Stadium.

Biloxi jumped out to a lead in the top of the first inning. Andruw Monasterio worked a one-out walk and Cam Devanney drove him in with a double to right, putting the Shuckers up 1-0.

Nick Kahle widened the Biloxi advantage in the second. Thomas Dillard bounced a single into left with two outs in the inning and Kahle followed with a two-run blast to center field, his second of the year, pushing Biloxi ahead 3-0.

On the mound, LHP Robert Gasser struck out two in a scoreless first inning and allowed just one run in the bottom of the second on an infield single with the bases loaded. The lefty responded to the RBI single by retiring the next ten in a row, carrying the Shuckers’ 3-1 lead to the sixth inning.

The Shuckers threatened in the top of the sixth inning when Devanney doubled with two outs and Zavier Warren worked a walk, but a catch right at the railing of the Biscuits dugout retired the side and stranded both runners. Gasser allowed a lead-off single to Ronny Simon to open the bottom of the sixth but retired the next two batters, including a strikeout of Evan Edwards to end his night. RHP Luis Contreras (W, 3-2, BS,2) entered for the Shuckers and walked the first batter he faced before a ground rule double brought in a run and Blake Hunt gave the Biscuits the lead with a two-RBI single.

Biloxi reclaimed the lead for good in the top of the seventh inning. Kahle singled with one out and Yeison Coca followed with a walk against Biscuits’ RHP Andrew Gross (L, 1-3). Monasterio drove in both runners with a double down the left-field line, vaulting the Shuckers to a 5-4 lead.

In the home half of the seventh, Greg Jones was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning and stole second but was stranded at third as Contreras struck out Niko Hulsizer. RHP Cam Robinson (S, 6) struck out the side in order in the bottom of the eighth and returned for the ninth. Pinch hitter Kyle Manzardo grounded out and Kameron Misner struck out, but Jones reached on a fielding error by Dillard. A walk put the winning run on base, but Robinson struck out Simon to lock down his Minor League leading 25th save of the year.

With the series even at two games each, the Shuckers continue their six-game series against the Biscuits on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. LHP Nick Bennett (6-9, 4.87) takes the mound for Biloxi opposite Biscuits’ RHP Evan McKendry (0-4, 3.52) for a 6:05 pm first pitch.
