BINGHAMTON, NY – The Binghamton Rumble Ponies, Double-A Affiliate of the New York Mets are pleased to announce they will transform into the Southern Tier Scoop Scoundrels July 17th through the 19th against the Akron RubberDucks. This brand new alternate identity released at Mirabito Stadium as part of National Eat Ice Cream For Breakfast Day pays tribute to an odd law prohibiting one to carry an ice cream cone in their back pocket.
According to theory there is a blue law in New York, which prevents anyone from carrying an ice cream cone in their back pocket on Sundays. This law dates back to when people’s mode of transportation was primarily horseback, and thieves would attempt to lure horses with ice cream in their back pockets.
Binghamton’s transformation into the Scoop Scoundrels comes off the success of the 2025 identity, the Binghamton Bathtub Donkeys. Another blue law identity, the Bathtub Donkeys recognized the blue law that you couldn’t have a sleeping donkey in your bathtub and dates back to the 1800s.
The Scoop Scoundrels will take the field following the All-Star Break, July 17th through 19th against the Akron RubberDucks (Double-A Guardians Affiliate). Fans are in for a real treat with exciting promotions throughout the weekend including a Scoop Scoundrels ice cream bucket hat giveaway on Saturday, July 18th to the 1st 1,000 fans; as well as a postgame ice cream social following the game featuring local ice cream vendors. More information will be coming in the following months leading up to the games.
