'Birds Use Three Homers To Take Series Opener

OKLAHOMA CITY, Oklahoma - The Memphis Redbirds (21-12) crushed three home runs to top the Oklahoma City Dodgers (22-8) 8-3, Tuesday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The Redbirds dominated tonight's game from start to finish, scoring at least one run in the first three innings to grab an early 6-0 lead. Every spot in the lineup, with the exception of the pitcher's spot, recorded a hit tonight.
The Redbirds sent seven men to plate in their three-run first inning. Max Schrock led off the game with a double, Tyler O'Neill walked immediately afterwards, and both scored on Luke Voit's double. After Yairo Muñoz reached on a fielder's choice, and Rangel Ravelo walked, Patrick Wisdom brought in the third run of the inning with an RBI single to score Munoz.
The 'Birds hit three home runs to score their final five runs on the night. In the second inning, O'Neill crushed a two-run bomb for his ninth homer of the year, and his third in four days, to put Memphis up 5-0. Munoz followed suit in the third inning, smacking a solo shot, his second of the season. The 'Birds were held scoreless for two frames before Oscar Mercado drove in Patrick Wisdom and himself with his fifth home run of the season.
Sean Gilmartin was lights-out for the Redbirds in his third spot-start of the season. The lefty needed just 70 pitches to get through five innings of one-run ball. He walked just one batter, and struck out two, with the only run coming on a solo homer in the fifth inning. The start was Gilmartin's longest outing of the season, and his sixth-straight appearance allowing one run or less after allowing seven runs through his first four appearances.
Mike O'Reilly pitched the final four innings for the Redbirds, and was solid in his Triple-A debut. The righty allowed three hits, two runs, and one walk, while striking out three batters.
The Redbirds and Dodgers will play tomorrow at 11:05 a.m., and Memphis' road trip will continue through Friday at Oklahoma City.
