Birmingham Collects First Saturday Win in Five Series

On August 26th, the Birmingham Barons collected its first win on a Saturday in five series. The Barons victory came in a Game 5 over the Rocket City Trash Pandas by a score of 6-4. In the win, Birmingham put together solid performances from both sides of the plate collecting

On August 26th, the Birmingham Barons collected its first win on a Saturday in five series. The Barons victory came in a Game 5 over the Rocket City Trash Pandas by a score of 6-4. In the win, Birmingham put together solid performances from both sides of the plate collecting eight hits and using five total pitchers.

From the plate, Wilfred Veras led the way with a 2-5 performance coupled with two RBI. Veras secured his runs batted in on one swing of the bat in the sixth inning. In the sixth, Wilfred smacked a single to score Terrell Tatum and Colson Montgomery to bring the Barons up 6-3.

Other than Veras, the Barons secured RBI from Montgomery, Bryan Ramos, Alsander Womack and Moises Castillo.

Ramos and Womack kicked off the ballgame in the top of the first by scoring their RBI. Ramos’ came off his lone hit of the night, a single to center field that scored Tatum. Womack followed with a soft ground out to the pitcher that scored Montgomery.

Castillo got the scoring start back up in the fourth with his RBI. Moises’ impact to the scoreboard came on a line drive single to center field that scored Sebastian Rivero. Montgomery's lone RBI came off a force out grounder that scored Yoelqui Cespedes. The Chicago White Sox No. 1 prospects RBI is what gave the Barons the lead that would seal the game.

Although Tatum and Cespedes' impact came on the base paths, they both secured a hit in the ballgame.

From the mound, starting LHP Ky Bush put together his best outing as a Baron during his fifth appearance. Bush finished his 5.0 innings pitched allowing two hits, three earned runs, three walks and a home run to go with his seven strikeouts. The White Sox No. 7 prospect also collected his first win as a Baron with his efforts on the bump.

LHP Gil Luna was the first call to the bullpen for the Barons in his quick outing. Luna finished his 0.1 IP with one hit, one earned run and three walks to go with one strikeout. The Barons kept with the left-handed relievers as Garrett Schoenle was called upon next out of the pen.

Schoenle was efficient in his 1.2 IP in which he allowed zero hits, zero runs and zero walks to go with three strikeouts. Since being moved to the bullpen, Schoenle has only allowed seven hits and nine earned runs to go with 12 strikeouts in his 13.2 innings pitched.

The Barons opted to go right-handed after Schoenle finished on the bump in RHP Tristan Stivors. Stivors in his first appearance since being taken off the IL went 1.0 IP with zero hits, zero runs, one walk and struck out two.

Birmingham then in the ninth decided to go back to a left-hander to close out the game in LHP Fraser Ellard. Ellard collected his first save of the season for the Barons in his sole inning of work. The southpaw ended the night allowing zero hits, zero runs and struck out three.

The Barons with the victory clinched a series victory over Rocket City with one game left to play. Birmingham now turns their efforts to Game 6 in which they are planning to have White Sox No. 4 prospect, LHP Jake Eder, take the bump.
