Bohorquez Shines in Debut as Wind Surge Fall to Travelers, 4-3

Right-hander allows no earned runs, strikes out seven over five innings in Double-A debut

WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Wind Surge (26-27) dropped game two of a six-game series to the Arkansas Travelers (21-32), 4-3, Wednesday night at Equity Bank Park despite Double-A debutant Adrian Bohorquez allowing no earned runs and striking out seven over five innings.

Offensively, Khadim Diaw and Caden Kendle notched multi-hit performances, while Jake Rucker extended his team-leading on-base streak to 25 games with a single. Brandon Winokur also smashed his eighth home run of the season in the loss.

On the mound, Bohorquez dazzled in his Double-A debut, striking out six batters through four scoreless innings. A pair of two-out Wichita errors in the fifth led to four unearned runs, but Bohorquez finished his outing without allowing an earned run. Preston Johnson followed with four scoreless innings of relief and struck out five as the pitching staff recorded its 54th game with double-digit strikeouts this season.

THE RUNDOWN

Bohorquez got the start on the mound for Wichita in his Double-A debut and was strong through his first four innings, striking out six while keeping the Travelers off the scoreboard.

Arkansas broke through in the fifth, using a pair of Wind Surge errors and a single to plate two runs before a two-run homer brought home two more. All four runs in the inning were unearned.

Bohorquez finished his outing after five innings, allowing no earned runs on five hits while striking out seven in his Double-A debut.

The Surge got on the board in the bottom of the sixth, using a pair of singles and a wild pitch to plate a run and cut the deficit to 4-1.

Wichita pulled another run back in the bottom of the eighth when Winokur launched a solo homer onto the berm in left field, his eighth of the season, to make it 4-2.

Johnson entered in relief to start the sixth and continued his run of strong outings, tossing four scoreless innings while striking out five.

The Wind Surge did score one in the bottom of the ninth on a sacrifice fly but it wasn't enough as they fell 4-3.
