DAYTON, OH – 20-year-old Henry Bolte knocked in four runs with a single, double and homer – each at least 108 mph leaving his bat – but the Lansing Lugnuts (1-1) dropped an 8-5 matinee to the Dayton Dragons (1-1) on Saturday at Day Air Ballpark.

Held scoreless on Opening Night, Dayton struck back with big swings of its own: a three-run homer from Cam Collier in the first inning and a two-run homer from Cade Hunter in the fourth off Lugnuts starter Jose Dicochea.

But Bolte, the A’s 2022 second-rounder and No. 12 prospect, did his best to keep the Nuts in the game. A 108-mph double to left-center ignited a bases-loaded threat in the first inning against Jared Lyons, though Lansing was unable to score. A 111-mph two-run homer to right-center, his first roundtripper of the year, put the Lugnuts on the board in the third inning. And a 109-mph two-run single in the eighth inning – off a 99-mph fastball from Dayton closer Luis Mey – brought the Lugnuts within a run late.

But on the Bolte single, Brayan Buelvas overran third base and was tagged out in a rundown to end the threat, the Dragons followed with two insurance runs in the home half, and Mey faced the minimum in the ninth to hand the Lugs their first loss of the season.

Bolte finished 3-for-5 with four RBIs, supported by two-hit performances from Cameron Masterman, Joshwan Wright and Colby Halter.

Lansing starter Dicochea recorded six strikeouts in 3 2/3 innings, though he allowed five runs on four hits and four walks. Jack Owen followed with 1 1/3 perfect innings before Luis Carrasco allowed one run in 1 2/3 and Garrett Irvin gave up two runs (one earned) in 1 1/3 innings in their Midwest League debuts.

Right-hander Jacob Watters gets the ball for Lansing in the series finale at 1:05 p.m. Saturday, opposed by Dayton right-hander Javi Rivera.

The Lugnuts open their home schedule on Tuesday, April 9, the start of a six-game homestand against the Great Lakes Loons. Tickets are on sale at the Jackson® Field™ box office, available for purchase at (517) 485-4500 or online at milb.com/lansing.
