Bolton's stellar debut headlines 5-0 shutout win

CHARLESTON, WV (May 25, 2018) - Cody Bolton's five sterling innings led a four-pitcher shutout for West Virginia, while Calvin Mitchell went 3-for-4 with two RBI as the Power blanked the Kannapolis Intimidators, 5-0, on Friday night at Appalachian Power Park.
Bolton (1-0) finished his South Atlantic League debut after a career-high five innings of work over 75 pitches. The right-hander tallied a career-best eight strikeouts and allowed just two hits. The 2017 sixth-round pick wrung up every member of the Intimidator line-up once. with Tate Blackman being the lone exception.

Bolton joined Max Kranick as the second Power pitcher to have their South Atlantic League debut and pitch five scoreless innings in the last week.
Blake Cederlind , Blake Weiman and Matt Seelinger combined to toss four shutout innings out of the pen to close out the game. Seelinger and Weiman hurled three hitless innings after Cederlind worked around a lead-off double in the sixth to keep the Intimidators (29-17) off the scoreboard.
West Virginia (25-19) struck first in the opening frame, scoring two runs in the first off Kannapolis starter Parker Rigler (2-2). Chris Sharpe set the table with a walk for Mitchell, who drove him home with a double to left. Deon Stafford then followed with a single before Oneil Cruz lofted a sacrifice fly to center that scored Mitchell and gave the Power a 2-0 lead.
Mitchell stroked an RBI single in his next at-bat in the third to push the lead to 3-0 after Lolo Sanchez singled to begin the inning and scored on Mitchell's knock. The 2017 second-rounder has registered multi-hit games in each of his last four contests.
West Virginia tacked on two more runs in the eighth, as Mitchell led off with a single and scored on a Cruz double to right. Cruz later came home on a ground ball from Brett Pope that forced an errant throw from Kannapolis third baseman Luis Curbelo, extending the Power's lead to 5-0.
West Virginia will continue their final homestand of May against the Intimidators on Saturday, with first pitch set for 6:05 p.m. The Power will send RHP Hunter Stratton (1-1, 6.23 ERA) to the hill while Kannapolis counters with righty Yosmer Solorzaro (1-2, 4.87 ERA).
