Browning, Coffey, Dickerson Scheduled to Appear at Celebration Game

Dayton, Ohio-The Dayton Dragons today announced additional names who are expected to appear at the Dragons 20th Season Celebration Game on Saturday, March 30. Legendary former Reds pitcher Tom Browning, who served as the Dragons pitching coach for two seasons, former Dragons pitcher Todd Coffey, and former Dragons outfielder Chris Dickerson are expected to appear at the game. 

The Dragons announced earlier this week that outfielder Austin Kearns, a member of the inaugural season Dragons in 2000, is expected to appear at the game. Additional names will be added.   
The game will match the 2019 Dragons (Team 20) against a team of Dragons alumni who are still playing in the Reds organization (see list below). The game will be played at Fifth Third Field with a scheduled start time of 2:00 p.m. on March 30. It is the first event of its kind known to be played in Minor League Baseball.
Browning, the Dragons pitching coach in 2012 and 2015, tossed the only perfect game in Reds history on September 16, 1988 when he retired all 27 Los Angeles Dodgers batters in a 1-0 victory. Browning spent 12 years in the Major Leagues as a pitcher from 1984-95, winning at least 14 games six times. In 1985, he went 20-9 for the Reds, becoming the first rookie in 31 years to win 20 games in a season. He was the starting and winning pitcher for the Reds in game three of the 1990 World Series against the Oakland Athletics, a series the Reds swept in four games. Browning is a member of the Reds Hall-of-Fame. Following his playing career, he served as a coach in the Reds system for nine years.
Coffey pitched in 461 Major League games, the most of any player ever to play for the Dragons. He spent the 2002-03 seasons with the Dragons, pitching in 77 games, tied for fourth most in franchise history. He represented the Dragons in the 2003 Midwest League All-Star Game, notching nine saves with Dayton that season while posting an ERA of 2.25. He began an eight-year Major League career with the Reds in 2005. Coffey is remembered by many fans for his habit of sprinting at full speed from the bullpen to the pitcher's mound when called upon to enter a game.
Dickerson played for the 2004 Dragons, batting .303 to rank among the top 10 in Dragons single-season history. He went on to spend seven years in the Major Leagues as an outfielder from 2008-14. He appeared in 355 games in the big leagues and batted .304 as a rookie with the Reds in 2008.
Former Dragons on the Alumni team on March 30 will include outfielder Taylor Trammell, third baseman Jonathan India, pitcher Tony Santillan, and catcher Tyler Stephenson, all currently consensus top-six prospects in the Reds organization. The team is also scheduled to include catchers Hendrik Clementina and Chris Okey; outfielders TJ Friedl, Narciso Crook, Stuart Fairchild, Michael Beltre, and Aristides Aquino; infielders Gavin LaValley, Bruce Yari, Brantley Bell, John Sansone, and Luis Gonzalez; and pitchers Scott Moss, Aaron Fossas, Ryan Hendrix, Wyatt Strahan, Wennington Romero, Packy Naughton, John Ghyzel, Ryan Nutof, and Cory Thompson.
The full list of 25 players includes two Reds first round draft picks (India and Stephenson), one supplemental first round pick (Trammell), and three second round picks (Fairchild, Okey, and Santillan). Among the 25 players are the Reds 2018 Minor League Hitter of the Year (Friedl), the Reds 2018 Minor League Pitcher of the Year (Santillan), the Most Valuable Player of the 2018 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game (Trammell), two 2018 Midwest League Full-Season All-Stars (Clementina and Ghyzel), the Reds organizational leader in victories in 2018 (Moss) and the Dragons all-time career leader in games played (Gonzalez). The list also includes numerous popular, multiple year Dragons such as Crook, Bell, Sansone, and Beltre.
