Trying to deal with some bad luck at the plate this month, Bryan Reynolds decided he would keep his approach simple Sunday.
"I didn't hit it where they were standing this time," the No. 3 Giants prospect said. "I've been doing that a lot recently. I tried to make an adjustment and hit it where they aren't standing."
It paid off, Reynolds recorded a career-high five hits and notched four RBIs to lead Class A Advanced San Jose to a 12-8 win over Modesto at John Thurman Field. He finished a homer shy of the cycle and his five knocks tied the Cal League team's single-game record.

"It feels great. I've been struggling a bit as of recently and it feels nice to hit it somewhere nobody's at," Reynolds said. "We only did BP in the cage before the game. I was just trying to get loose. It wasn't like I had an epiphany before the game. It was just one of those days that happens."
The 22-year-old opened the scoring off right-hander Bryan Bonnell in the first inning with a single to center field that plated 30th-ranked Giants prospect Ryan Howard. Reynolds followed that up with a single to right in the third.
"The first at-bat, I had two strikes on me and they were shifting me over, and there was [Howard] on second," Reynolds said. "I literally hit a ground ball to shortstop, and there was no one there and I managed to bring him home. They were shifting me pretty hard pull-side. I just tried to kind of fight one off, and I hit it to short and no one was there."
With two outs in the fourth, the Vanderbilt product smacked the payoff pitch from righty reliever Jose Santiago into center for a game-tying two-run triple. Reynolds' fourth three-bagger of the season marked his third consecutive hit with two strikes.
"I was just trying to let the ball get in deep so I could see it a little bit longer and let it come to me instead of going after it," he said. "That at-bat I fouled off a couple of pitches, so I got to see [Santiago] a little more. I got a good pitch to hit.
"Triples are fun. You get to run, you get to get up to full speed. I guess about a week ago I was saying, 'I just want to hit one where I get up to top speed.' They're fun."
The 2016 second-round pick crushed a double to center in the sixth and capped off his night with a single to left in the eighth that scored Jalen Miller. Reynolds grounded out to shortstop in the ninth.
The performance was the Baltimore native's 14th multi-hit game of the season, raising his overall average from .259 to .281. The switch hitter is batting .393 on the road and just .200 at home.

"I don't think there's anything real deep going on," Reynolds said of the splits. "It seems like we've had a lot of day games on the road. I like hitting in day games a little bit more. Just something about home right now I'm hitting it at people. I'll try to make an adjustment and hit it where they're not standing."
No. 7 Giants prospect Heath Quinn went 3-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two walks in his sixth game back from a wrist injury. Gio Brusa chipped in three RBIs and scored twice.
"Heath's a really great hitter and he's really fun to watch hit," Reynolds said. "I'm glad that he's healthy and back with us so I can watch him do his thing."
For Modesto, Chris Mariscal and Eric Filia collected three hits and an RBI apiece. No. 20 Mariners prospectDonnie Walton went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
