INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Indians today announced right-handed pitcher Bryse Wilson as their June Player of the Month after he provided a spark to the starting rotation with three wins and three quality starts in four appearances.
Wilson, 24, went 3-0 with a 2.49 ERA (7er/25.1ip) in June. In all four of his starts, Wilson held the opposition to two runs or less while throwing at least 5.0 innings. He displayed strong command with a 1.03 WHIP – ranking fifth among International League qualifiers for the month – and a 5.25 strikeout-to-walk ratio with only four walks compared to 21 strikeouts.
Wilson’s June was highlighted by a stellar performance on June 21 vs. Memphis when he went 7.1 innings and fanned a season-high 10 batters to earn the win. It was the third time in his career that he struck out double-digit batters in an outing, the last coming when he earned a career-high 13 strikeouts on Aug. 15, 2018 with Triple-A Gwinnett vs. Louisville. Wilson’s outing also marked the first double-digit strikeout game from an Indians pitcher since Chase De Jong fanned 10 batters on May 5, 2021.
Wilson was traded to Pittsburgh from Atlanta on July 30, 2021 with RHP Ricky DeVito in exchange for RHP Richard Rodriguez. He was originally selected in the fourth round (109th overall) of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of Orange (Hillsborough, N.C.) High School.
