Eastlake, OH – Brayan Buelvas homered for a third consecutive game on the road, but it was overshadowed by a grand slam from Nate Furman in a Lake County Captains (5-6) 6-5 victory over the Lansing Lugnuts (5-7) on Thursday night at Classic Auto Group Park.

Buelvas, who swatted a two-run homer in the eighth inning of the Tuesday night opener and followed with a first-inning homer in Wednesday’s matinee, opened the third inning with a solo homer to right field off Austin Peterson to give the Lugnuts a 3-1 lead.

But in the bottom of the third, Lansing starter Jose Dicochea (2 2/3 innings, six strikeouts) was removed from the game due to pitch count with runners at first and second and two outs. Johnny Tincher greeted Hunter Breault with an RBI single to pull the Captains within 3-2, Tyresse Turner walked to load the bases, and Furman drilled a subsequent Breault offering out to right-center for his first career professional home run, launching Lake County into a 6-3 lead.

The Captains’ offense was silenced thereafter. Breault pitched a scoreless fourth, Luis Carrasco Lake County hitless from the fifth through the seventh innings, and Colton Johnson struck out a pair in a hitless eighth.

The Lugnuts threatened in the seventh inning, loading the bases with none out against Juan Zapata and trimming the deficit to a run on a Jose Escorche double play and a Colby Halter triple, but Buelvas flied out to right to strand Halter at third.

In the eighth inning, Jonny Butler (2-for-4) doubled to right with two outs, but Zach Jacobs struck out Euribiel Ángeles (2-for-4) to strand him.

And in the ninth inning, three straight one-out singles from CJ Rodriguez, Escorche and Halter loaded the bases – but Zane Morehouse struck out both Buelvas and Henry Bolte to end the game.

The fourth game of the series is set for 6:35 p.m. Friday, with Lansing right-hander Jacob Watters facing Captains southpaw Parker Messick.

The Nuts play the Captains through Sunday in Eastlake before returning home for a 12-game, 13-day homestand beginning Tuesday, April 23. Tickets are available for purchase at the Jackson® Field™ box office, available for purchase at (517) 485-4500 or online at milb.com/lansing.
