Syracuse, NY (August 16, 2017) - The Syracuse Chiefs fell to the Durham Bulls, 3-2, on Wednesday evening at NBT Bank Stadium. Zach Collier provided all of the scoring for the Chiefs, pumping his fourth home run of the season over the right-center-field fence in the third inning. Meanwhile, a pair of home runs from Jake Bauers and Patrick Leonard in the sixth led the Bulls to victory.

Durham (74-48) opened the scoring in the top of the third inning against Jacob Turner. The right-hander started off the frame by hitting Jake Hager with a 1-1 pitch. After a Justin O'Conner walk, Taylor Featherston flied out to right field, allowing Hager to move to third. In the next at-bat Willy Adames walked to load the bases for Bauers. Then Bauers grounded out to second base, bringing Hager in to score to put the Bulls out in front 1-0.
Syracuse (46-77) came back to take the lead in the bottom half of the inning. Michael Almanzar led off the home half with a double off Chih-Wei Hu who had come on in relief of former Chief Mike Broadway at the beginning of the inning. Two batters later, Collier crushed his fourth home run of the season with the Chiefs over the right-center-field fence, giving Syracuse a 2-1 lead.
The Bulls utilized the long ball to regain the lead in the sixth. Bauers led off the inning with his 12th home run of the season, and second in as many nights, into right field. Two batters later, Leonard followed suit, hitting his tenth homer of the season, this one over the left-field fence, for a 3-2 Durham lead.
Despite picking up the loss, Turner pitched well in the game. The right-hander took a no-hitter into the fifth inning and tossed six strong innings, allowing just three runs on five hits and striking out three.
The Chiefs and Bulls finish up a three-game series on Thursday night at 6:35 p.m. at NBT Bank Stadium. Right-hander Esmil Rogers is scheduled to take the mound for Syracuse opposite left-hander Ryan Yarbrough for Durham.
