Bulls & Jumbo Shrimp Cook Up "Surf & Turf" Series

The Durham Bulls and Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp have cooked up the “Surf & Turf Series”, a first-of-its-kind rivalry with the steaks higher than any other Minor League Baseball matchup.

Instead of the winning team receiving a traditional trophy or championship ring, the result of the series will broil down to the losing team being forced to give away t-shirts with the winning team’s logo at a 2022 game, marking the first instance in Minor League Baseball history a team will be giving away merchandise featuring an opponent’s logo.

If the Bulls win the season series, the Jumbo Shrimp will prawn off 500 t-shirts with language along the lines of “We lost the 2021 Surf & Turf Series to the Durham Bulls”. If Jacksonville somehow wins by ‘devein intervention’, the Bulls would be forced to give away 500 shirts with similar language about losing the Surf & Turf Series to the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.

36 games between the two teams are on the menu over the course of the 2021 season. The Jumbo Shrimp won four of the first six matchups in Durham between May 11-17, with the Bulls set to face Jacksonville on the road for the first time starting Tuesday, May 25.

Following a league-wide off day on Monday, the Bulls are scheduled to start a six-game road series versus the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp on Tuesday, May 25. First pitch is slated for 7:05pm ET. Starting pitchers for both teams have not yet been determined.

The Bulls are set to return to Durham Bulls Athletic Park on Tuesday, June 1 to start a six-game homestand versus the Norfolk Tides. First pitch of that series is scheduled for 6:35pm ET. Tickets for that series, as well as for Durham’s six-game homestand with Charlotte between June 8-13, will be available starting Tuesday, May 25 at 10:00am ET at durhambulls.com.
