(UPTOWN CHARLOTTE, NC) -- Charlotte Knights infielder Jake Burger, who was recently tabbed to represent the organization at the 2021 SiriusXM All-Star Futures Game, was recalled by the Chicago White Sox today. Additionally, designated hitter Yermín Mercedes and right-handed pitcher Zack Burdi were both optioned to Charlotte.

Burger, 25, appeared in 42 games with the Knights this season and hit .322 (55-for-171) with 29 runs scored, 15 doubles, one triple, 10 home runs and 36 RBIs. He currently leads the Knights in hits, doubles, RBIs and is tied for the team lead with Tim Beckham in home runs. He is second in the Triple-A East in hits, tied for fourth in RBIs, fourth in batting average, fifth in slugging percentage (.593), tied for sixth in OPS (.964), third in doubles, tied for first in extra-base hits (26) and third in total bases (102).

Originally selected by the White Sox in the first round (11th overall) of the June 2017 First-Year Player Draft, Burger entered the 2021 season ranked by MLB.com as the 16th prospect in the White Sox system. He missed all of the 2018, 2019 and 2020 seasons.

Mercedes, 28, has appeared in 68 games this season with the White Sox and batted .271 (65-for-240) with 26 runs scored, nine doubles, one triple, seven home runs and 37 RBIs. He hit .310 (58-for-187) with 35 runs scored, 12 doubles, 17 home runs and 62 RBIs with the Knights in 2019.

Burdi, 26, has appeared in nine games with the Knights this season and is 0-2 with a 5.59 ERA (9.2 IP). In six games with the White Sox this season, Burdi posted a 0-0 mark with a 5.00 ERA (9.0 IP).
