PASCO – C Peter Burns’s liner down the right field line with two out in the bottom of the 10th landed fair inside the chalk Friday night, claiming a 5-4 victory for the Tri-City Dust Devils (24-28 2H, 59-59) over the Everett AquaSox (26-26 2H, 59-59) in front of a crowd of 3,340 at Gesa Stadium.
Jorge Ruiz, who had come on to pinch-run for starting DH Ryland Zaborowski in the 8th inning and started the inning as the automatic runner, scored from third to clinch Tri-City’s third win of the week in four tries. Reliever Sam Tookoian (2-3), who held Everett off the board in both the 9th and 10th innings, earned the win.
Burns got the scoring started with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 2nd, hitting a ball to deep center that allowed RF Kevyn Castillo to score easily for a 1-0 lead. 3B Slate Alford’s single pushed Castillo, who had reached on an infield hit, from first to third. Three innings later Burns led off the frame with a bunt hit to the third base side, coming in to score on an RBI single by CF Hayden Alvarez that tied the game at 2-2. SS Kendrey Maduro’s sac fly later in the 5th gave the Dust Devils a 3-2 lead.
The game see-sawed back and forth a couple of times, with the AquaSox responding with a run in the 7th to make the game a 3-3 tie. 1B Ryan Nicholson’s RBI single with two out in the bottom of the 7th put Tri-City back in front 4-3, only for Frogs 3B Luis Suisbel to bash a long solo homer to right in the 8th that squared things at 4-4 until Burns’s heroics.
Righty Wyatt Lunsford-Shenkman (5-2), put in the tough spot of holding Tri-City scoreless with the automatic runner at second to start the bottom of the 10th, took the loss.
DUST DEVILS NOTES
-The Dust Devils victory evened up their 2026 record in extra innings, moving them to 2-2 in bonus baseball. Everett’s miserable luck in extra innings continued, with the visitors from the Snohomish County seat now 0-11 in games not ending in regulation.
-The game featured a strong pitching matchup, with both starters faring well. Tri-City right-hander Peyton Olejnik went 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on six hits and leaving in line for the win before receiving a no-decision. AquaSox righty Colton Shaw went five innings, giving up three runs on seven hits and also receiving no decision.
-Gesa Stadium was not the only place where Northwest League baseball saw extra innings Friday night. The Vancouver Canadians held off the Eugene Emeralds 12-10 in ten innings at PK Park, keeping the Dust Devils five games back with 14 remaining. The Spokane Indians beat the Hillsboro Hops 6-1 at Avista Stadium, evening up their series at two games apiece.
