PEORIA, IL - The West Michigan Whitecaps offense only managed two hits as part of a 3-1 loss to the Peoria Chiefs Tuesday night at Dozer Park.
A night after tallying 14 base hits, the 'Caps only managed a pair of hits in game two. Blaise Salter accounted for both, bouncing a leadoff double down the third base line and scoring the teams only run on a groundout by Josh Lester in the second inning. Andy Young blasted a solo home run to lead off the fourth inning to tie score at one, and it would remain that way until the eighth. J.R. Davis' RBI-single scored Michigan native Nick Plummer to break the tie, and Brian O'Keefe delivered a sacrifice fly to add a Chiefs insurance run. After Salter lined a single into right field in the fourth inning, the final 16 Whitecaps hitters were retired in-order to conclude the ballgame.
Eudis Idrogo was outstanding in receiving a no-decision, lasting seven innings allowing just one run while striking out three before Locke St. John (1-1) allowed both Chiefs runs in the eighth to take his first loss. Austin Sexton (1-0) celebrated his Midwest League debut with his first win in three innings of perfect relief. Brady Bowen pitched a perfect ninth to earn his first save of the season. The Whitecaps fall to 20-12, while the Chiefs improve to 12-17. Young led the offensive charge by going 3-for-4 with a run scored and the home run.
