Frisco, TX - The Springfield Cardinals collected their first win of the season with a 4-3 victory against the Frisco RoughRiders before 2,535 fans at Dr Pepper Ballpark on Monday night. CF Lane Thomas helped lead the offense with a 2x4 night and a double, his league-best fifth double of the year and his fifth straight game with an extra-base hit.

The RoughRiders (2-3) jumped in front early with three runs against RHP Connor Jones (W, 1-0) in the bottom of the second. An error brought in the frame's first tally, before a two-run double from LF Scott Heineman made it 3-0. Jones, however, dug in from there and kept the RoughRiders from adding to their lead with scoreless work through the rest of his 5.0 total frames.

Meanwhile, the Cardinals (1-4) chipped away in the top of the third against LHP Brett Martin (L, 0-1). RF Granden Goetzman led off with a walk and moved to second on a single from LF Victor Roache. 2B Darren Seferina laid down a sacrifice bunt and reached on an error, loading the bases with no outs. 3B Tommy Edman and SS Edmundo Sosa then lifted consecutive RBI sacrifice flies to right field, bringing the Cardinals within one run, 3-2. After a scoreless fourth, the Cardinals catapulted in front with two runs in the fifth. With one down, Edman and Sosa slapped back-to-back singles. Thomas followed with an RBI double to left-center, plating Edman and moving Sosa around to third base. C Andrew Knizner chopped an RBI groundout to short, but it brought home Sosa for the go-ahead run, 4-3.

After Jones closed his outing with a scoreless fifth, RHP Landon Beck took over to start the sixth. The 'Riders loaded the bases with no outs to start the frame, but Beck dug out of it with a strikeout, a fielder's choice at the plate and a groundout to first.

Beck then struck out the side in the seventh before RHP Chris Ellis (S, 1) slammed the door with a pair of perfect innings. The two relievers combined to retire the last 10 RoughRiders in a row to close the 4-3 win for the Cardinals.
